Quitting work that is...long story short my vacation schedule didn't agree with Mandy's vacation schedule so she talked me into quitting! I am soon to be a "trophy husband" as of June 7th which is the kids last day of school.

Anywho to keep me out of trouble I am most likely going to start doing wrenching, fabbing and vehicular repairing & flipping this summer. Along with that comes scrap metal recycling and possibly starting a Toyota mini/cruiser wrecking yard if the chance to buy some cheap wrecks comes up. The challenge is to make a little fun money while having fun. I'm weeks away from getting my 220 welder and as soon as my 40's sell I will be looking into a plasma cutter. Depending on how things go in a year or so maybe a tubing bender and notcher will be in my future as well. Basically I will be charging materials + consumables + beer money for a while until my skills improve. (don't look at my Pigs suspension as an example of my skills, that was 10 years ago with a 110 welder in a tiny garage on the weekends to escape from my ex-wife. It was more like anger management.)

I will probably build a plate bumper this summer for the FJC and a rear bumper/tow hitch for the Pig. If the stars align a SAS for the 4runner could happen as well. Gonna have to look into building/converting a travel trailer for a car trailer too. Depending on how life goes I could see becoming a small business and setting up accounts for discounted parts from certain vendors.

All these changes should allow for more family time, (quitting time is 3:00pm when the kids get home) more camping time, more vacation time and with a little luck a lot more wheeling time. I haven't had a week off during the summer for the last 9 years, I can't wait!

Fantastic!! Congrats man. Sounds like a fun plan.

Hope you have thought it out. Guess that means we have to rent the shop now when we need to use it...??? Happiness means a lot when it comes to living a long life. I wish I had your options. I'd quit tomorrow if I could. :)

We can still do work parties over here. Its just the shop will be better stocked! :wrench::wrench:

Lets see,,,,,,,,,,no more driving a big, ugly brown truck in heavy traffic and trying to stay on schedule. No more lugging 50+ pound boxes up several flights of stairs. No more long hours, especialy around holidays. Are you sure you really want to give all that fun stuff up?
Is it possible for Mary and Mandy to hang out together more? I'd like to hang out and get in the way in your shop, maybe even learn a few things. Does it sound like I'm jealous? You're damn straight mister. This old dog will probably work till they plant me under a big rock. :bang:
Good luck

Ya ya ya, all I know is the Spirit Runner is quitting too!!! :flipoff2:

I can reinforce the suspension of my MR2 and make bootlegger runs up and down Mt Ashland. I bet I can do 150+mph on the way down. I may spend the rest of retirement in jail but it'd be a heck of a way to go!
Ed, I can definitely be persuaded to make house calls!

You're a gentleman of sorts. :)

It's not weird! It's just like me, old and ignorant. Doesn't know how to fix itself. And I just don't have the strength or time or money or.......you know?? ;) Can't wait to see if I fixed the power steering lines! you guys should give odds and place bets on whether I can finish anything w/o coming over there!

Phase I of retirement plan: Complete!
Miller 211, 220v welder. Weld 3/8" on single pass. I tried it out for the first time tonight and even in 110v mode (it does both 110 and 220) welding 1/8" to the trailer frame I blew through which my old Hobart could never do. The metal penetration was awesome, probably need to turn the speed down a little though. Anyone need a slightly used Hobart Handler 120? :hillbilly:
