On my 97 LX450 I replaced the HG, had valve job done, injectors cleaned, and replaced all rubber lines. Since I had a bad rear leak I then pulled the transmission and put on a new rear main seal and resealed the pan. Several times I was stuck and didn't know what to do. Whenever I posted my questions I got great help and was able to continue the project. I don't know if I would have been able to get through it without all of your help and the quick shipment of the parts from Cruiser Dan!
Today I finally finished and it started right up and purrs like a kitten! I don't see any leaks!:bounce:
Thanks again!
Jim

how long and how much if we be so bold...? :)

Excellent. FYI, you should strongly consider running just water for a couple hours and then changing it to coolant after a thorough block/cooling flush (lots of high pressure water). If a shop did you work, DON'T accept their word they did this for you. No way unless it's your brother's shop or something - this takes a lot of time. Also, same goes for oil. Run crap for a few hours and then change it and the filter. You have a bunch of abrasive grit in the block's oil and coolant.

Land Tank, I got the silver Star

It took me about 2 months of every other weekend for me to do this job. The total cost was about $1200 with all the parts from Cruiser Dan (what a super way to get parts!!) I had a valve job and head resurfaced, all the fuel injectors cleaned and calibrated, redid the alternator and starter, plugs, wires, distributor cap, flushed the power steering, flushed the cooling system, pulled the transmission and put in a new rear main seal and resealed the arch. I replaced every piece of rubber hose and tubing in the engine compartment with original Toyota hose.
It now runs like a watch and doesn't leak a drop. I bought this LX450 new and it now runs as good as new! Should be good for another 130,000! It would never have happened without the help on this great web site. :D
I hope I have the chance to help someone else who gets stuck with some part of this project.

I am thinking of doing this job in the same manner...the thought of trying to do it in two big gulps has me procrastinating.

I have the luxury of not having a failed gasket (at the moment!) and I have an "extra" vehicle. So I can stretch it out over a month if I want.

I just haven't been able to get myself to start the job. Might have something to do with it being summer in Houston :frown:

You guys are scaring me with all this head gasket stuff.

I've been trying to keep a low profile in hopes that DAN has forgotten about me.

Don't need any bad "ju-ju" right now.
