A big thanks to Spressomon for coming over Saturday morning and helping me.
We did a trial fit of the 100 sub tank, it looks like it will go in slicker than owl crap.:bounce2: I can't wait to join the tanker fleet.:bounce:

He also helped me track down the leak in my ARB. The good news is we found out where it was, the bad news is it's inside the third.

At first I thought it was the O-ring, but I didn't see any gear lube in the air line so it might be the bulk head fitting. Just to be safe I'm going to get O-rings before I drop the third member out.

Yeah on the first.

Boo on the second.

The correct strap bolts are on order so I can get the tank fully mounted and check the spare tire clearances.

I called ARB USA today. They have the o-rings in stock, but the don't have the housing seal. In fact the guy I talked to didn't think they had ever brought it into the US before. It would have to go on the next container. The part is #2 in the exploded view below. I know from experience it's not hard to break the copper tube when replacing the O-ring.

So now I wonder, should I go ahead and roll the dice, and pull the third hoping the o-ring is bad and not the housing seal?

Or play it safe and wait until I have the housing seal in hand before I pull the third?

We have almost never needed the front locker, but Murphy dictates that if we go on a trip without it.............

Well...if your luck with this type of stuff/decision is like mine I'd say cover your bets and wait

And you're welcome LC brutha! It was a pleasure to work on someone else's Hundy if you know what I mean :)

Do you think anyone else would have the part? Christo? Kurt Williams (cruiseroutfitters)?

Mass FUEL...NICE!

Drag about the ARB though....

X2 on Kurt.

What model number locker is this? I have in stock several different seal housings, primarily for the older versions. Looks like an RD142 or RD132?

If the copper line is not broke there is no reason you'll break it by doing seals, rarely rarely does something like that happen. Just be careful when you pup the clip off and it should be a non issue. Good luck!

I believe I have the RD131, 98 LC IFS front.
My fear is that there was a screw up in the install (interference with a moving part) and the copper tube got damaged over time. I don't see the o-rings going bad this quick, they lasted for years on my FJ40.

ARB USA has never brought this housing seal into the US as a spare.
They have to get it from Australia.

Maybe they don't go bad?

I would take that as a good sign, even though waiting on parts sucks.

I talked to Kurt yesterday, that's what he said.

Like I said though, my fear is that the install was screwed up.

What do you think my chances are of River City paying for the replacement if it was their fault?

What...are you trying to serve as the comparative firing cap for the bigger bang of the powder keg now?! :D

You just want to see me explode don't ya? :D

rusty,

are you thinking the copper pipe rubbed against the ring gear teeth? If so, I'd wait for a whole new seal/line thing. *However*, same thing happened and I did a pseudo trail repair on my copper line by using 3/16" compression hardware (from Ace) to fix the line. It went for three years before I finally went in there for PM stuff. Totally redneck but it got the job done until I got all the parts from ARB.

Thanks Ali. I'd thought about just soldering up any hole if there was one. If it was a solid axle truck I'd probably drop the third and do that or the compression fitting.

It's a bit more work to get the diff out of the IFS front end. It's the kind of thing you want to get right the first time.

agreed.

Well Dan, I have to eat my words in that we don't 'normally' replace those seal housings. The tolerances on the new ARB's (one piece designs) are getting TIGHT in that with the seal housing now on the ring gear side of the carrier you have to bring the air line up and over the ring and to the bulkhead fitting. Well with a nearly 80 lb diff to maneuver into the housing its almost too easy to snag the line that crosses over the diff and crunch it between the housing. We did an R&R on a customers install today, we set up the 3rds but he put them in the housing. Sure enough the line got snagged and broke it open. Thankfully we had the seal housing in stock and were able to fix it good as new and get him back on the road. I'm working on a small 'tech note' to send out with our diffs and locker sales to make sure customers are very aware of this. Keep us posted on yours, always interested to see what issues guys come up with.

I thought you didn't have a replacement seal housing?:flipoff2::lol:

I'll be sure to post up the results with pictures, if I remember to take them.

I didn't and don't for your locker :D

I did and do for the more common LC lockers ie RD02/08/33/124. I keep a full assortment of small parts and internals in stock, in comparison seal housings are pretty rare sales, a handful a year for example.

Just yanking your chain. :flipoff2:

If ARB USA hasn't brought any in the chances of anyone here having one are slim. After talking to you I figured out ARB went to a more ductile copper compare to the old ARB's I have in my FJ40. breaking the air line while replacing the O-rings probably isn't an issue any more. I still think there is a chance in my case that the air line was compromised by the install. So I think I'll wait until I get a replacement before I dig into the front end.
