Would anyone be interested in upgraded wiring harnesses for 60's? They would be direct bolt-in, using stock connector patterns. I would offer both body and engine harnesses. Wiring and connectors would be of a higher grade and thicker to allow for increased voltage etc. I would also offer additional electric channels to be used for headlights, woofers, additional speakers etc.

I didn't post this in 'for sale' because its not for sale yet! Just wanted to see if anyone would actually be interested. Not sure on the price yet but as i get closer i'll know the exact price.

Also is there anything specifically you'd want included or optional (gotta give the people what they want!)?

Ps these would be for fj60's to start with, and expanding into 62's

I'm sure many would. Even if you were just supplying restoration shops with brand new harnesses, it'd be a good line of business for you. 60s I can't imagine would be horribly difficult if you know what you're doing (I wouldn't if I were to try one), but I would imagine 62s would be really nasty to design a system for, given how much everything is integrated into multiple harnesses and also the ECU, and that's just for an early fuel injected vehicle.

What I would LOVE to see would be complete replacement harnesses (with upgraded headlight, windshield washer and wiper (rear too), horn, lock and window circuits all based on the ISIS system for 60s and 62s. I know I'm living in a fantasy world thinking that could happen, but hey a guy can dream can't he? :D

Interested.

Maybe a couple circuits for aux and extra lights and power ports inside cab and in cargo area.... ?

interested

I'm interested. There are a few goofy things that previous owners had done to mine. I'd like to start from square one. Though I do like the idea of a couple of extra circuits.

yea i'm down for a body loom on a 62

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a single harness for the entirety of the 60 series land cruiser, not an engine harness and a separate body harness. Both "halves" both run in the cab into the driver's side where the main fuse block and relay block exist.

Either way, great idea. Not sure it'd be right for me as my harness is now in good shape, but a good idea never the less.

great feedback guys. I was toying around with the idea of incorporating a power inverter for more "advanced" packages allowing you to run 110v power with rv gang boxes wherever you wanted. Well looks like i'll be going to go ahead with this project.

As far as the harnesses needed to be replaced i know my PO was a... creative electrician... and some of the wires just look plain nasty especially towards the back wheel wells and lights. Don't get me started on how the head unit was run and how the towing harness was wired in. If everyone who owns a cruiser is as passionate as I am then i'm sure getting everything perfect is the end goal (or at least as close to right?) lol.

Glthfj60 - i think you're correct, its all one harness technically, i just mentally break it down to "does it go to the engine" or "does it go to lights etc". There's not a separate computer for each system like new cars. An 07 Corvette has GMLAN (General Motors Local Access Network) and like 8 computers that control different systems. So those would be different harnesses.

Design would be just an upgraded toyota wiring system, so if everything goes according to plan, you could just disconnect your old one and snap your new one in (it would take a few hours and some wiggling [ and cursing]). Give me a little bit to get my prototype finished and i'll post up some pictures etc.

I say the rear portion of the harness stands alone. The connector at the driver side kick panel is the division, thus there are 2 harness sections. That being said, I think your idea is a good one, especially for those owners 24v trucks looking to convert to 12v.

I could see myself purchasing one. It'd be nice to have new stuff in there.

Interested.

Some ideas to add to those above...

Add a few extra switched positives (for stuff you want to work only when the truck is running).
Delete some of the stuff that NA trucks don't get.
Think about a desmog version...since a bunch of the underhood stuff becomes unnecessary with a desmog.
The real trick I think will be the degree to which you can deal with individually customized requests. The more you can do this, the greater the appeal...but also the greater the complexity for you. The 12Volt guy seemes to make it work with a mix of stock and custom offerings.

The addition of a simple "Kill Switch" to be hidden in engine compartment or under dash would be a sweet thing, too.

Dirt bags don't read MUD.

Would love to get my hands on both looms for a 62

I'll second the desmog version--that's what I would want anyway.

Just out of curiosity, what knowledge/experience do you have with vehicle electrical systems? I would assume a lot if you're talking actually making and marketing full wiring looms. Just curious where you're coming from for a project like this.

I could see upgrading the headlight power system, simplified system for upgraded alternator.
For me, there is no plug and play wiring for 60 series trailer lights. If you did something incorporating a brake controller, with reverse lights, RV battery charge supply, you could call me "Sold".

This would only work with 12V, cause even the interior light switches are differently wired between the
12V and 24V. Even figuring out that information would help guys with diesel conversions.
