Teraflex shackles??

I've got a set of brand new revolvers that you can buy off of me. I bought them for a suspension project that never got done.

One set (2 ea). So if you want them on both axles you still need to purchase one other set.

I have no experience with those scissor type shackles, BUT I think they don't really work that great. Sure it would give you more articulation, but when they open up it is only the weight of your axles and tires on the ground. It may also get scary in off camber situations. Then when go back on road you have to insert a pin or something to keep em closed. They sure do look mean though.

www.superiorengineering.com these are the bling ones, here is a quote from a thread about the superiorengineering one. dd13 sells them, but i think they are around $5-600 bucks for two. the terraflex are around $200 for two.

"These things do cost fair bit of dough but they are worth the money as I said earlier they flex that much you have to go a long way before needing to use a locker, if you talk to Michael from Superior Engineering he will do you a deal he is pretty cool with things like that . The reason they cost so much is because they have a yoke in the middle of them and they let the spring twist which gives you more flex ( no binding ) the tera-flex open but dont twist ."

Doc,

How much dough?

Just what I paid... $100 plus shipping.

Maybe. I think that I'm going to be rearching my springs, so I'll have to look at shackle prices. Thanks!

For a 60 I'm not to sure the Tera Flex are stong enough. Way back when I took a good look at them for a suspension project and figured they might be good for a j*#p but not a 60.
I bought a set of Superiors ( one of three in NA ) and it is just incredible how well they work. All three of us were at Katemcy last year and the Superiors did not disappoint. As a matter of fact we were all impressed.
So I hate to diss Hildy but they work awsome on road and off. They give a different feel to your 60 that is not bad but is good.
Search the Superior thread.
I've changed my 60's suspention since Katemcy so if you want to articulate let me know.

I'm glad to hear from someone that actually uses them. Did you do both axles? I guess the tipping wouldn't be as bad of a problem if you don't do both. I still like the look and was really interested in them at one point, but lost interest because of some things I heard about them, thats all. If you say they work good off road I believe you, but I still don't see how they could be better than regular shackles on road.

Read a quite a few threads on em here and there. Oh, you know, opening up when on a steep descent, bucking when you hit a big enough bump in the road. Things of that nature.

They sure do seem to make a cruiser's rear flex a bit. I like the idea, but probably would go with 55 springs or similar for good droop (on a 40).

Geeze! I have never heard of that. Having a shackle break while driving would be hell wouldn't it?

I hear all of these 'stories' about people having the flex-shackles unload on off-camber or bumpy roads... But they are all just that- stories. I've never heard a single person give first hand experience with that happening to them.

I think a lot of it is ... well this could happen... but in reality, it doesn't.

Probably right, was hoping to see some pics to quantify some of these stories.

I forgot all about these shackles, I considered putting them on my 60 with a SUA lift to get more articulation. I thought that I would just wait for the newness to wear off to get real info on them. Neat thread.

There are a few brands of these, Downey, Hyper and Teraflex, any preference with this companies?
