So I ordered the mini plug with the tech stream v9 software and loaded onto a computer running xp. Seamed to install fine. The software connects to the truck, reads the Vin and model info correctly also. When I run a full scan some of the sub menu tests show up with an asterisk indicating no data is available. If you try and click onto the AHC I get an error saying the test is invalid or not available. Any ideas here? I ran a plug check and all but one position comes up green

I forgot to mention I also tried this with an older version of tech stream v7 and received the same results. I haven't even replaced AHC parts yet and am already frustrated!

Here is the one I purchased:

When you start TechStream have you entered the year and model? Fiddle with country if that doesn't work.

Paddo,
I was going to Pm you. Thanks for jumping in. The tech stream auto fills all the vehicle info when it connects. I can do a general test but thats it.

Just ran a cable check followed by a successful AHC check, here is the screen shot from my cable interface check.

I'm using version 7..TechStream on an 03 LX
Edit. Your pin 7, K line, communications pin check result is different to mine. I'd check your dlc3 connector sockets haven't been enlarged/deformed thru sticking jumpers and shorting cables in. Look for any other reason for a dodgy DLC to vci connection.

Thanks Paddo. Im not sure what the issue is. seems like i have a connection just not able to run certain tests... Maybe i will revert to an older version and see if that works... Thanks

I also changed the country and some of the other registration info like user type...

Yep you've definitely got power and ground but that pin 7 needs to be good. Ignore the CAN bus stuff. Can you run any other tests?

Just the general test. I get things like rpm, oil temp, etc. but not the more specific tests. They all get an asterisk after trying to run them...

My mini VCI and software is due to arrive soon. It will be interesting to see how it works. I have an 01 LX. I also have a 14.5 Camry and I plan to try it on that as well.

Cappy please let me know how it goes. i wish i had another vehicle to test...

Will do. do you know anybody with a 1997 or up Toyota or Lexus? This should work with all. Any fellow mudders nearby?

Im in NYC now... not the MUD haven of the world. I have two lx450s but there in AZ.. Ill try and find someone to test the cable function.

After attempting two software versions with no joy suggests your cable or the actual dlc3 connector. I'd really like to see that pin 7 comms channel test pass for you. Did you get a chance to eyeball the sockets in the DLC?

Yes, the pin 7 is key.
Could it have anything to do with the ahc override thingy?

This. Couldn't see OPs sig on iphone - reference to the AHC override. Could be the game changer. I guess next step is to either ask the vendor if/how the override affects the comms bus and techstream diagnostics or disconnect it and try again. Well spotted Mr uHu.

Could be the key. Testing on another Toyota vehicle would help verify, if you try it on another with the same error, it's the mini vci cable, if it works on another it's eiher your odbII port, the ahc override or something else.

Uhu... great catch on that! I hadn't even thought of that. I'll call slee and see if they have any idea or if someone has run techstream with the override.

I'm still not seeing the other tests though. Let me find another truck to test and I'll report back.

Mine should arrive mid next week.

My setup showed up today. I will hack the driver to work on windows 8 tomorrow am and hopefully try it out after work.
