Just dropped my truck off at Toyota to have them modify the unlock settings on the fob to roll down all windows. Everything I've read noted that the procedure is < 15 minutes to plug an adapter into the harness and update a setting.

Toyota is quoting 2-3 hrs of labor. Is that consistent with others who have made this change?

Thanks!

Yikes! I personally would be running from that quote.

Just buy yourself a Carista https://caristaapp.com/ and do it yourself.
Looks like the service tech was uninformed and quoting extra time as a guess. The service department made the change in 15 minutes. Sorry for the spam :) I'll certainly be looking at the caristaapp the next time I want to make adjustments.

15 minutes includes the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee afterwards. 😀

If you DIY much, grab Techstream and save yourself the hassle of going to the dealer for things like this, plus it is a great diagnostic tool. I’m having good luck with the VXDiag version from Amazon.

Good point. My home is currently saturated with Macs and techstream appears to be Windows software so it makes sense to use Carista even in lieu of a Windows partition.

I run it on my macbook(s) in both boot camp and in a Parallels vm. It does a ton more than carista, but that may not be of value to you.

M1 Mac... But I get the point that techstream has more configs than Carista.
Much appreciated!

IMO, it's worth the few extra bucks to have both Techstream and Carista.

I keep a Carista OBDII dongle in the console - can be used anytime anywhere (like for an error code while away from home).

Techstream for the garage (using the VCX nano - USB interface version). Plus Techstream handles other Toy/Lex products in the family going back to early 2000s (Carista doesn't - example: no support for 2002 Lexus SC430 customizations).

Go do some digging in the 100 series section. “Tech stream in 5 minutes” … I’ve got techstream runnin on an old MacBook Pro very easily. Worth the effort for sure

I have bluetooth and cable OBDII dongles for use with Bimmercode on BMWs - hopefully one of those will work here.

Live data function of techstream is indispensable for diagnostics, not that you are likely to need that function for a long time on a 21. Plus other features like AC servo initialization, which is supposed to be done after any battery disconnect.

Not that carista isn't useful. I do the same thing as LBridges, especially for roadtrips. Plus you can use the carista OBD module to run OBDFusion on an IOS device for displaying things like trans fluid temp or whatever other data you want when towing.

And finding an old windows laptop really cheap on craigslist or similar just for your vehicle diagnostics is a solid plan, the hardware requirements are very low. That way I don't care (as much) about greasy fingerprints, and all the various diagnostic systems for different cars/bikes can be on there. Plus if the cable has software that is questionable it isn't getting installed on a machine I care about. Some of the software and drivers can be big security risks, in theory.

Did you read the first post? All the info you need is literally in the first post.

I tried two different mini-VCi cables and about a half dozen different versions and configs of what is in that thread, and could never get TPMS or live data to work. Module/code read/reset did though.

This is a common bug for the above instructions on a 200, though not absolute.

Only when I got a VXDiag setup did TPMS and live data start working as they should.
Info here: Has anyone successfully programmed TPMS IDs on 2015+ using MiniVCI - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/has-anyone-successfully-programmed-tpms-ids-on-2015-using-minivci.1140990/post-12399514

Same here.

Yep, I also went down that rabbit hole. Unfortunately a lot of misinformation floating around about the cheap vci cables. I bought one, only to be told I needed the 2.0.4 firmware cable and it didn't work either for tpms. Wasted a lot of $ and time messing with cheap cables. The vxdiag version is great.

I have one of these and its excellent.
Window Close/Mirror Fold Module
I've seen them on ebay, amazon and aliexpress. Some say for 2008-2015, some say 2010-2015, and some say 2008-2018, so it probably works for all years.
