Okay, so I'm going to be the subject for the next tech session apparently!

Just talked with Luis - he's got everything I need to get my 5.29's installed, and I'll tackle my transfer case low range gear as well at the same time.

This is going to be a messy, gear-oil smellin' session. But for those that are willing, there might be a beer in it for you. ;)

Anyway, it's probably going to be about a month out, on a Sunday. Not sure if we'll get it all done in one day or not... but it has to be finished off before GSMTR!

Sooo... anyone else interested in showing up?

Interested in showing up but certainly under the legal drinking limit. I'll have to stick with soda I guess, where are you in Orlando?

Sure, I'll show up

This will take place in Apopka, at Luis' house.

And yes, we're all careful about how much we drink. We all have to make it home safe and sound.

I just found out from some folks in the 80's forum that the front end doesn't even have to come fully apart... you can remove the trunion caps and the tie rod ends and pull the entire knuckle and hub assembly off at once without having to split the hub from the knuckle. That'll save about 3 hours of work right there...

I will try and make it if I am in the area. Might be neat to see a new fangled Landcruiser taken apart.

5:29's, huh? Got some big rubber in the plans?

37's ;)

I want it also for the overall ratio change. As it sits now, my low ratio in 1st gear is 28.6:1. Adding the Marlin Crawler TC gears, it's 35.82:1. If I throw the 5.29's in, now I'm getting somewhere with 46.22:1. That'll be one hell of a difference on the trail.

I'm still debating on the lift. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a Slee 4" however... after last years' issues with my springs almost collapsing, I need to do something. And I don't want to bump-stop the hell out of it like some guys do with the 80's...

I'm looking around at tire options now. I know I'm going to have to change rims - 17's and I need a 4" offset. It's just a matter of spending a s*** ton on KM2's or maybe getting some military treads for dirt cheap.

By the way, Luis is changing his days on/off, and this weekend is the first shift change, so I'm going to talk to him next week and see how it went - then he's going to try and give me a guess as to when he'll have his garage cleaned out for me to pull in, and that will determine the exact date of the session.

I'd like to shoot for 2/16 personally - the following week I have to be in Ft Pierce, so if we can't get it all done on Sunday I'm going to feel terrible leaving a broke ass truck sitting around!

I can turn a wrench but have no real "Cruiser know-how", but I am looking to learn, am I welcome to come and try to stay out of the way? I can do pizza runs as needed....

Matt, these sessions as much about socializing as they are about getting work done. We all learn something at these sessions.

Even if that something is that oil doesn't appear on the alternator due to any fault of the truck...

I finally made up my mind.

Should equal a lot more fun on the trail. Or more broken parts... Gonna need that Slee 4" now...

Dunno yet. Depends on a lot of things, including how long it takes to get the stuff from them. Sometimes Slee has a bit of a backorder thing going on, and I'm still waiting on a check to clear from a job. Once that happens I can let the floodgates open and get all the other parts and stuff.

Hey tube benders!

This is what I want for my 80! But I don't know s*** about bending tube...

I agree, every 80 should get to play in the snow at least annually! The fender guards are neat too. Bending tube is easy, fitting tube can take time. I have a 1.75" die if your interested.

The bender is only the first part of the equation! From there you have to ... bend it!

I spent enough time bending EMT for electrical contractors to know how much of a bitch THAT is.

So yes, I would LOVE to take you up on that offer, but I have NO idea what I'm doing. This is the first 80 I've seen that actually has the rear quarter "right" in my book.

I just don't like the fact that he's got it welded into the front bumper... I'd love to have something that isn't so permanent in case of a winch issue or something of the sort.

You can use this so you will beable to remove the front bumper . Try camburg.com there is many diffirent styles out so you'll just have to find what meets your needs .

couldn't get the other two pics to show . google " rollcage connectors "
