Hi All,

Fernando, Steve and I met with the National Forest Service last Saturday to get CLCC signed up to do Adopt-A-Trail for the two OHV trails in the Lee District (Tasker's Gap and Peter's Mill Run). This means we have to hold at least two trail maintenance work days per season.

The Washington Area Trail Riders (motorcycles/ATVs) have adopted all the smaller ATV trails that branch off of these two OHV trails so we have to share adoption of the Tasker's Gap and Peter's Mill Run trails with them. At this time, they hold the key to the gates so preseason access has to be coordinated with both them and the NFS (NFS lets law enforcement know we are allowed to be on the trail when it is closed to the public).

WATR are having a pre-trail opening survey/maintenance workday on Sunday March 23 so we can coordinate to meet at the gate if we have a contingent interested in doing this run/service. This date conflicts with our raffle work day, but might be a more attractive activity for some of you. The purpose of the run will be to survey the trail for needed maintenance, signage, repair, etc. Some brushing of trails will likely be needed, as well as recording work that needs to be done because we are supposed to report back our findings to the NFS.

I have 5 Volunteer Trail Passes and have done all the paperwork with NFS. I can get more if needed given adequate notice (the NFS Ranger station is not open on weekends). There are some required safety measures including a mandatory attendance and tailgate safety review of the guidelines/rules. Let me know if you are interested in leading or attending this activity. I will coordinate with the NFS and WATR. Unfortunately, I need to be at the raffle truck workday so I can't make it to the trails that day.

Note: The seasonal opening of these trails to the public has been postponed due to the wet weather, so this is a chance to get out early AND do a public service.

It must have "a valid vehicle license as required by state law where the vehicle is maintained". The driver must have "a valid operator's license or learner's permit as required by law of the state in which the vehicle is being operated".

I might add that NO ALCOHOL is allowed on the trails (can't even have it in the vehicle).

It must also have a muffler and spark arrestor and cannot exceed 99db at 20 inches at test rpm.

I'll have to get clarification on this I don't think I will have it licensed and insured by then. I consider it an ATV.
But it does not matter what I consider it it is what the Ranger thinks!

OK GUYS! We need to get a firm count of the trucks that will do this trip on Sunday. I have 5 driver passes and so far it looks like 4 trucks are possible at this time. Please confirm your interest tonight!

Thanks!

Jon

I'm waiting to hear back tomorrow if the snow has melted off. The motorcycle club who has the gate keys probably won't be going if there is still snow on the trails.

Hopefully it's still snowy. Tomorrow looks like a no go for me but I do want to do this.

We are a GO for Tasker's Gap on Sunday. We need to meet the Wash. Area Trail Riders at 10am at the Tasker's Gap parking area, the one on top of the mountain. We need a digging bar, branch loppers and folding hand saws. The Trail Riders have someone who is NFS certified to use a chain saw (we'll try to get a couple of folks certified in the May session...they only hold the training session twice per year).

Speak up if you are still in! It would be a shame to have CLCC drop out of our first trail cleanup.

Thanks,

Jon

I'm in but I do not have a ride as of right now. May have it going this afternoon.

(Update): I should have my junk fix for the cleanup run.

Looks like 3 rigs.

Jakes40 is meeting Tikicruiser and me at the Tasker's Gap OHV parking area a little before 10am. I will have passes for two other drivers if anyone else shows up, but you MUST be there before 10am (one pass per vehicle required).

Had a good day of wheeling and clearing some trails.

It was an all around good time. We got around the chainsaw restriction with my my Sawzall. The Taco has the full three prong outlet putting out up to 400 watts. With an extension cord we made mince meat out of down trees up to 6 inches. I wonder if the forest service would make a professional carpenter get certified for sawzall use??

stump, i'd go back anytime if you want to break the cherry with that new four runner.
