So the stereo in my wife's '04 LX470 just quit one day. Complaint was duly noted. After doing some research it occurred to me that the problem was most likely the Mark Levinson amplifier. What I learned was that it's damn near impossible to bypass this hunk of garbage residing under the passenger seat. The choices are fix it, replace it like-for-like or just get used to the sounds of silence. After weighing my options I decided to fix it. Myself. This thread will chronicle my work. I'll come back to it with pics and info. As of the writing of this post I have performed what I hope is the fix for this amp. I will re-install it tonight to confirm whether my fix worked. Who knows? My fix may not work. If it does, however, I will honestly be able to say that I fixed it for under $100 and not the $400+ that everyone pays to have the "usual" place to fix it. Stay tuned!

Well...how embarrassing! My fix didn't work. I plugged in the amp, turned on the radio and...POP...let the smoke out again. Mark Levinson can suck it. Back to the drawing board.

I'm w/ @Ninja Cruiser100 - "take a [literal] whack" and get a replacement.

I'll even offer up an Alpine 4-channel digital if you're interested. PM me.

When i worked at Carmax there was a stereo repair place in Charlotte we used to send oem head units amps and speedometers to but i forgot the name thy were pretty good on cost and wouldnt charge unless they coukd fix it.

Ok I'm hearing the the JLaudio fix-88? Will work via wiring before meeding an amp and speakers. I'm about to put the "fix", 5 channel amp, and focal "flax" components in mine and then a new sub, considering sound proofing too.

Yeah. Doug at Downtown soldered the board for me. He said they wouldn't touch a Mark Levinson amp but I stripped it down to the board diagnosed what I thought was the problem and convinced him to give it a shot to repair. Our little experiment didn't work. Oh well... Good folks at Downtown Radio.
