I need to replace this wire on my tail light that has since broke off. It's so close the socket that I don't think I can splice it. How do these sockets come apart?

Just push the wire and rubber plug towards the front where the bulb plugs in. Do you have a soldering iron?

Push the bulb in and slightly twist it, i think, counterclockwise snd pull it out. There's grooves on the sides of the socket and there's small tabs on the side of the metal part of bulb. Dual filament bulbs only go in one way so the contacts connect with the proper wire contacts.

If your bulb has 2 filaments/contacts then the 2 lugs are at different levels so the bulb only fits one way - push in and turn a little (CCW) and remove the bulb. If the bulb has only 1 filament/contact then the lugs are at the same level and the bulb will fit either way.

The guts shown above have both 2 and single contacts.

Remove the bulb. Push wire out from the back side towards the bulb socket. De-solder the wire/s - attach new wire/s proper color code if you can. Poke it back threw - attach proper connecter if you can - put light bulb back in socket. Put the assembly back on the rig. Plug in wire - test the function.
