Resurrecting an old thread:

Can anyone who actually has the Mark's gears installed in their transfer case comment on how loud the gears were in high range?

Almost got it ready to start the motor :)
LOL

Boy was I wrong :D

So can someone straighten me out as to if marks crawl box will fit a 62? Only says an 80 series with A440f. And if they do, A440 and crawl box or H55 no crawl box, I'm only looking for a little more reduction 70:1 would be nice but 47:1 wouldn't be that bad, almost the same cost.

I have about 3,000 miles on a Mark's 2.8:1 gearset.

The gears drop to about 1/2 of initial noise level in 1,000-1,500 miles and 1-2 gear case oil changes. They are still louder than stock gears by about 20%-30%, and the "singing" is worst in 4th gear.

I had 1.99:1 vacuum set in my BJ7X, but wanted a better set for light crawling. Marks were $1,300 vs OEM 2.27's which were about $1,100, and no driveline adjustments.

3:1 Marks require much more inner case mods and something I did not want to entertain.

and to all, commit to memory that 37 teeth on the ring and 10 teeth on the pinion DO NOT EQUAL "3.73's", FJ40's, FJ55's, FJ60's, and 99 44/100% of all LC's made before 1990 don't have 3.73's.

"and the "singing" is worst in 4th gear"

That is good to know. I was about to ask about that.

ok, so while the thread is revived....

if i keep the waggie, i will definitely do a fi 350...this is mainly a daily driver and i'm sick of 2nd gear over the passes.

current setup is 2f, stock 4spd setup, 4.11's.

future plans are h55, doubler, and change diffs back to 3.70s. (btw, i suck at math, that's why i'm presenting this here.).

does that sound better/cheaper than mark's gears? let's hear from those that have marks' gears.

should i stickwith the 4.11s? keep in mind, right now, i like being able to run 75 mph on the flats with 33's, but 3.70's allowed me 85 mph + which was even better.

i previously ran 4.56's which were ok off road, but, they sucked on road.

i don't plan on going larger than a 34" tire range (i.e. no soa, currently, 4 1/2 alcan's with 1" over shackles and 33's. because of tire issues, i may run a bfg 33 on road and a tsl 34 off road...both in a 10.5 width). going v8 because i hate climbin mountain passes in 2nd gear.

The point is .. 33" + 3.70 + 1:1 T-case + 350 = good milleage, but what about your clutch in rocks . ?

In other escenario, if your plans aren't rocks and maybe mud or excursions .. agre great setup IMOP ..
