I have done many of these things and I believe that an o ring should go where the red arrow is pointing. However my rebuild kit does not have one and I am not 100% that one goes there. Please post up if you know if an o-ring goes there.

Thanks

Here is what the EPC shows for the speed-o cable going into the transmission:

It seems very vague, but maybe it will help.

The EPC shown no O ring in that location. I put the little spring seal in and the outer o-ring. This is bugging me, I thought one was there but I guess not.

Thanks

no oring in that location.........only a seal on the outer end where the cable attaches........ a oring in the location in question would limit lubrication of the speedo gear shaft in the aluminum holding housing and that would not be good........

Hmm I might have to go back and re-check on mine. Well glad and agreement was reached.

I am doing a transfer case rebuild now, and no o-ring as far as I can tell where you are asking.

actually... the Little grove machined into the speedo gear shaft helps the oil travel upward for lube purpose........a oring at the bottom would defeat that......

I'm rebuilding my tcase too, and there's no o-ring on my speedo gear either. Plus, with the way that notch is cut in the housing, it would tear up an o-ring, so I am assuming that it provides oil to the gear.
