Anyone have an innovative way of getting the ball bearing out of the t-case fill port? My magnetic finger isn't doing it and the fridge magnet with the killer pull won't get it out either. Any ideas? Thanks, Greg.

what ball bearing? are you sure you are at the fill port

The fill port is a hex key bolt with a spring and a ball bearing inside according to my FSM.

???

that sounds like a shift detent not the fill port, the fill port is low on the aft face of the main part of the case a few inches from the bottom, no spring no ball just a hex head (24mm IIRC) plug with a metal gasket

we are talking about a HF2AV in 93-97 FZJ80 correct? I would think the HF2A from the 91 and 92 FJ80 would be similar but I dont know for sure

This is another issue I addressed last night.

The fill bolt is a ~15/16 aluminum(?) hex nut with a squish(sp) washer, it's only about 8" above the drain bolt. It's exactly the same as the 2 diff fill bolts.

I thought this was going to be about the difficulity of filling it.

Lurker,

What's the difficulty?? I drained and filled mine last weekend. I just attached about a 6" piece of clear hose on the nozzle on the gear oil bottle, held the bottle up over the frame rail and squirter her in.

24mm worked for me. My old 92 did not have any ball bearing behind the fill port nor does the FSM say anything about a ball bearing. Those pumps work slick but your arm gets tired. I've gone through 4 gallons in the past few weeks trying to purge out the muck the PO left me. Going to go home tonight and work on getting the synthetic introduced.

Thanks Guys

A look in the maintenance section, as opposed to the transfer section and all is revealed! Anyone know what the "screw port" in the transfer section of the FSM is for? It's nicely angled to hold a bottle of gear oil.

I used that method for the front and rear diffs, but with the transfer my glued clear hose kept getting snagged and would fall off. Did I metion the 1,000,000 ants while I was doing this?
