I've noticed the occasional puddle of oil under the truck, but only after high speed interstate travel. When I checked it out, I saw oil seeping from a few places on the t-case. I rebuilt this about a year and a half ago and it's been dry up until a trip a few months back.

I think the t-case breather is clogged and it's building up pressure, and pushing the oil out. How do you pull the breather? Can you reach it while it's still in the truck?

I found this pic when I had everything out of the truck, but I can't tell how it is attached to the case from looking at it. It's not mentioned in the FSM either.

I want to drive the 60 on a trip tomorrow, but would like to have this fixed first.

The breather is pressed in. If you can get a pry bar or chisel under the flange it should pop out.

Can you get to it while the transfer case is installed in the truck? I don't think so. One of the fixes is to tap the hole for pipe thread (1/8" maybe?) and then thread in a hose barb and then run a breather hose up into the engine compartment. I wouldn't want to thread the hole unless the transfer was disassembled.

You can get to it but it will be tight, and it will best be done by feel. One trick may be to lower the t-case by dropping the tranny crossmember. Support the engine under the oil pan with a jack, unbolt the crossmember, and then lower the t-case enough to reach the breather.

After rebuilding my t-case last year I drove for several months before reinstalling the breather. My plans were, and still are, to stick a hose on the breather plug and run this up into the engine compartment. Haven't gotten around to extending the breather so I reinstalled the cap with the t-case installed.
