I understand the physics, there are just too many ways to hook it up and either double or split the loads on each cable. Throw in angles to reduce the force and it gets even more complicated. And it's hard to describe without a free-body diagram to illustrate the load magnitudes and directions. What Steve and Shawn are saying agrees with what I was attempting to describe. Ali, there's about an inch of dust on my statics book so you can tell how often I break that puppy out.

What does statice have to do with it?

i think we are sidetracked from the original price question. :D
but Marc, i think i see what you are saying, but how many snatch blocks you got? and how long of a winch line can you have to reach several pulleys? the most you usually need is a 2:1 pull. that's all the line one usually has and all that's needed to get the job done. according to you and Steve, when you double back the line to your own bumper, each half of the winch line sees half the load. that was my concern with load rating. you engineers over complicate it too much.:flipoff2:

and Jon, the :wrench: you throw in always goes right over my head. :hillbilly: don't tell me you edited that page or wrote it.:D

Not Statice, Statics. You need an eye exam...

Well I guess if you wanted to use a block and tackle setup you could loop the rope several times and have maybe 16:1 compounding of your winch's load rating.

I'd say this is definitely off-track. I'm just glad I have some idea of what a snatch-block is and that you can run a synthetic cable through it, maybe.

Jon, if it makes you feel any better, I've actually heard of an used Statice. It was one of the primary flowers in my wedding flower arrangements, that along with Stephanotis. I was far too involved in the wedding planning. Oops. Off-track again. It's too easy.

Repeat 100 times in my head "synthetic winch cable".....

masterpull is a mud advertiser, looks like they have some nice stuff.

Okay, I don't use computers much, so I need help getting to the vendors on mud.

Here I am, credit card in hand and I get stuck in an endless loop:

Vendor's Market>>>>Woody's thread: 'MUD Vendor List!>>>"CLICK HERE...for a quick/easy shortcut to ALL the great Vendors who support IH8MUD!">>>No list here, just a link back to the Vendor's forum.

A search on Masterpull, or synthetic winch cable, or just winch cable = NOTHING.

WTF???

I got a price from a local rigging and wire-sling company for 3/8" Amsteel Blue for slightly more than $1 per foot. They'll put the thimble in one end for another $5. Sell me a latching hook (Grade 100) for another $20.

He really wanted me to buy the whole spool of 1000'- but I only got 150'. Last I knew, he still had 850' left.

PM me for the contact info if you want it.

Somebody call Ali.

Luke,
Go ahead and post the contact information if you don't mind. There are several guys in the club that are interested in synthetic rope.

I'll PM you the contact info. I'd rather not post up his info for all the world to see.

I don't know if he really wants to be in the business of supplying short (by his standards) lengths of small (again, by his standards) synthetic rope to the off-road community.

Thanks.
-Mike-
