Hello,
I wanted to find out some of your thoughts on Mobil 1 ATF. Many of you use it and recommend it to others...my question: Will using a syn ATF cause some leaks on a higher mileage trans? On the website for Mobil 1, they claim that the use of a syn motor oil DOES NOT cause leaks, but in my limited experience, I have noticed leaks (albeit small) begin after the use of a syn oil. So, those of you that made the switch to syn ATF, did you develop and leaks, or notice any fluid seepage where there was none before. I know that ATF has different properties than engine oil, but since the regular oil and ATF are dino based, I assume that they can both cause the formation of deposits and gunk.
Thanks,
Chris

This is for OZCAL's boy :bounce:

I've run Mobil1 ATF in my 1997 for the last 50k miles and no issues. It shifts noticably smoother. I also do a 4 quart drain and fill every oil change. If you really have a high mileage tranny, it's debatable though whether Synthetic anything will prolong it's life at this point. You will be $ ahead staying with conventional ATF and the Chevron DexIII is a good deal at Costco. The Chevron lube products have a top quality reputation and are very inexpensive due to the lack of advertizing.

Did you try the search engine?

Boy what an original question. It has only been asked about 50 times before.

not trying to be original....never noticed the search feature. Thanks, I tried it out and found most of what I was looking for.

tranny has 90,000 miles I think I'm going to try Mobil 1.

I've got a diesel conversion with the fully-hydraulic version of the A442F tranny. Both engine and trans have done somewhere between 275-300,000 miles. The trans is just now beginning to give a bit of trouble, so into the shop next week it goes.

Amsoil ATF has been used in the trans most of its life. I think this may have something to do with it's long life.
