Thanks!, it was more work than anticipated. Is it a common camera or specific to the GX? Mine doesn’t have any lines and I plan on mounting it in the center of the carrier hub.Wow!! That looks awesome! Great job!
It looks like you may be able to squeeze your backup light, without the red reflector below, back into the socket you used for the hinge. You may have to do a little fabricating for it to work and still have easy access if you need to get the hinge bolt.
Regarding the rear camera, I had to remount my rear camera when I added my rear bumper with the swing-out. I first used an old USB cable since it had the same number of wires as used for the camera, but the wires were such a small gauge, the video was horrible and spotty.
So I went to the hardware store and purchased some medium gauge 4 strand wire and it works perfectly.
So for mounting, figure out where it should be, then you'll probably have to fabricate some sort of mount and maybe a housing, I didn't use a housing since the factory camera is already weather proof.
I forget what year your rig is, but my rig doesn't have the fancy limit lines on my factory backup camera, but if you don't have those backup limit lines on yours, this may be the time to upgrade to a camera that has them! Just a thought...
70mph on the road, no notable noise yet. Thank you! There were multiple expletives used during the process. This looks perfect. Great job Bud.
Did you test it on bad roads at a higher speed ? I wonder if vibrations and knocking will be transferred thru the door.
The twin tubes close together was very hard to weld, It would be easier to use a single rectangular tube. Not sure if I want to go into production, I would probably loose my arse on it.That's about as perfect a solution as one could ask for. That's it....I'm ready to buy...where do I send my money? LOL
I just stayed with my factory camera. I usually only need it to see how far I can back up with my spare tire and jerry cans sticking out so far. For lines I just use the automatic side rear view mirror tilt down and I can see lines fine. Thanks!, it was more work than anticipated. Is it a common camera or specific to the GX? No worries, I definitely understand your thoughts on building/selling. On the other hand, I would definitely be willing to pay for your time and talent. I would even drive up from SA to DFW for fitment/install. It’s a great looking design, and well worth the cost IMO.The twin tubes close together was very hard to weld, It would be easier to use a single rectangular tube. Lab rat, I will pm you in a couple of days when I figure out my cost and time to fab another one. I have a couple tweaks to do to the license plate mount and once that is done I may green light another one. Will stay in touch. No worries, I definitely understand your thoughts on building/selling. Going to build ver2.0 adjustable with another brace point.
First I have to refine it to the point where I’m 100% satisfied with it, right now I’m 90% satisfied. The last 10% may be hard to achieve. Are you saying that you are considering building few for sale ?

Dude that is amazing!!! very clean installation. Definitely will buy one if availableI’ve been contemplating build a swing out carrier for my spare. The one option out there that mounts on the door doesn’t really appeal to me, too much weight on the door. My design has the base mounting to the frame and the carrier would swing out in unison with the door. What do you guys think? Would it sell?View attachment 2404707View attachment 2404708
