Hi All,
I have a swing away tyre carrier on my 80. Not sure what brand it is. It's currently only got a tyre on the right hand side and I want to build my own bike rack for the left hand side. It's got a solid post already on the bar ready to mount another arm. Only thing it doesn't look like most other swing aways as there is no thread and castle nut on the end, I guess gravity just keeps it on. Not knowing the brand I can't find any bearing/seal/outer cylinder kits. The axle stub is 25mm or 1" diameter.
My thinking:
Buy 2x bearings and a seal (1" id) and get a steel tube that matches the outside diameter. Weld one end closed (top) pack full of grease and slide bearing in with another tube to act as a spacer.
My questions:
Do I get cone bearings or normal skateboard type (not sure their proper name!).
Is there a special steel tube I can get has the correct ID to match with bearings (maybe for building trailers...) if so what would it be called to help search for it.
Or any other better ideas......
Thanks
