Can someone explain why my fj43 has a sway bar at the back instead of the fron end, just in front of the rear shocks, and linked to the frame and rear axle?

Did any 40 series come with a sway bar?
My instinct says no, but I don't actually know.

I'm guessing Somebody added it?

No clue. Pic's could help. Maybe someone "fixed" the OEM to meet their needs or there wasn't any parts so the they made something.

55s came with a rear anti-sway bar...

Looking at Amayama Trading 8/80 the sway bar was dropped on the mid wheel base 40 series. 40 series from 8/80 on still sold in the JDM are no longer under the Land Cruiser listings. You will find them under the Land Cruiser Prado.
