I thought the wiring was already there, other than the harness on the axles and the little section that connected the rear axle harness to the interior.
Go look up the floor harness, frame 82-02, PNC 82161, in your pirated catalog and you will find multiple listings specifying with and without differential locks.
Perhaps your dad is building a piggy-back harness to run along the existing floor harness like I did. The non-lock floor harness does not contain the wires that control the diff locks. The cowl harness does have them. There are empty cavities in the floor harness side of the non-lock harness and the connector at the rear, where the rear axle harness is attached, is different.

Yep they do list harnesses for locks and non. Now I just have to see what dad's doing about it. But I belive he said the ecu connected right up, so where in the harness do the wires stop for the rear if the connecters are there at the ecu?

so the connectors are just like pig tails? And so we just have to splice new wires to make the connections? I hate to sound clueless but I nor my dad can look at the wagon right now since it's in CO with my sister.
So if I'm going to install lockers in a non-lock 80, how many diff lock ecu do I need? And if I need two. say for front and rear, are these diff lock ecu interchangeable? Just want to clarify things before I get down and deep on this project. Thanks.

You will already have the center conrol relay in the LH kick panel. The one in the RH kick panel, called the "4 wheel drive control relay", is the one for the front and rear locks. There is a plug present in the harness to stab into it as there is for the difflock switch.
Thanks Cdan, you da man! I may have to buy an high mileage 95-97 LC with diff locks and do the swap since my LX has only 35K miles and still a baby. Buying an 95-97 LC with diff locks will probably the best bet to do this mod since all parts should be in good working order as far as diff, switch, harness, and ecu. Don't care about the engine or body as long as I have the coveted lockers. Again thanks Cdan.
ARB's would seem to be a better option than swapping high mileage axles for your basically new axles. You can wire the rotary switch so it looks factory.

Hey B,
Yeah I thought about that route. Seems like the ARBs are much better aftermarket option in obtaining diff lockers however I still would like to keep the LX an all OEM. I know what you mean with high mileage axles replacing my new axles. But then again, I don't want to be like Junk, who I think that if he would do it again, he would go for OEM lockers. Then do I have to worry about the leaky lines, or just get the braided stainless steel line to prevent air leakage?
Man, you just don't know how much I regret buying this LX without the most and highly coveted OEM diff lockers I was kicking myself to the rear for not listening to my intuition. Then a year later after I bought my LX, I saw this 40th edition with 98k miles without running board and roof rack at the same dealership. That 40th was gone in two days.
concretejungle, thanks for bringing the topic dude. Good luck though
There is only one Junk and you'll never reach that level so give up that fantasy.
The ARB lockers are a quality product and will be a much easier install than what you are attempting. One reason the diff lock option is "coveted" is because up until recently, they were basically free lockers. For those vehicles that will see off-road duty (most on this forum) this is a very desireable option. The OEM diff locks are not significantly better or worse than ARB's. They engage using 2 different methods but once locked they work exactly the same.
I could understand your desire to retrofit OEM lockers if this was going to significantly increase or preserve resale value vs. ARB lockers but I don't think that's ever going to be the case. I do believe that an original factory locked vehicle will be more valuable in 5, 10, 15 years.... at the point where most of the 80 series are owned by enthusiasts.
