Others with more experience can chime in here, but the way I view it is for joints that see more flex I would want a rubber bushing, or if its a more static joint, I would want poly. Poly will last longer, but is stiffer than rubber. Rubber is softer, but doesn't last as long.

Ex: For a bushing that simply rotates, such as the front control arms, I would vote poly. But for a joint that rotates and twists, such as the rear control arms, I would probably vote rubber.

There's a reason OE's always use rubber. I'd take their lead.

Rubber.

Poly for the '98-'02 steering racks, but that's to overcome a crappy design, not a material related issue. Rubber everywhere else. Except maybe on shocks, poly ok there too.

guderian, I've a couple of questions:

Is that just the one grommet on the rack?

Can the 03+ rack be swap into a 02-?

The big grommet on the passenger's side is the easiest to change, but the two driver's side ones make the biggest difference. And no, the racks mount differently on '03+ trucks.

Thanks. I see them in the rack housing, the two bolts go through. So replacing the three with poly, do they creak?

Planning to take pics of the whole process? Including all the parts you ordered?

Might also depend on intended use... I had a race car where poly made a ton of sense because it tightened up handling and gave more feedback, but I put it on a street car and found it noisy, transmitted a lot of vibration to the cockpit and was generally not so pleasant for daily use. Definitely a trade off I would consider for a dedicated off road rig or race car but not in a daily driver. For a cruiser that is a daily driver I lean toward rubber replacements.

Nope, because they don't move like a suspension bushing. The OEM rubber bushing is designed for isolation rather than positioning. Unfortunatly (as attested to by the design change) the rack needs more stability than the big grommet can provide...
