I have a 1985 FJ 60 with a OME heavy heavy suspension. I would like another 2" lift. There is no good spring shop locally. My guy at the local four wheel drive shop suggested redoing the spring mounts to bring them down and bring up the truck. He told me he had done it on a Toyota mini truck and it worked well. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks Mike

thats a dumb idea...

It would work ish but would look just stupid... I really cant beleive he sugested that... I think that people that have the jobs where they do should have to know something... like goin to an autoparts store 99.999% of them think they know everything bout everything, when in reality they have no clue as to what they are saying but meerly Atempting to repeat something they heard or read someplace. same thing applies here just cause he owns a lifted 4wd doesnt mean he should work at a off road store.

it would be WAAAAAAAAY Cheaper and Wasy Easier to just install a 2 inch body lift... everything moves up but the frame and you can fit bigger tires shich is where your ground clearance comes to play.

That is why I ask the list for advice. I had thought about a body lift but don't know what problems that can cause. I shall do some research and am open to more advice.

i wasnt trying to burn you, it was directed towards the guy you spoke with.

yea a body lift is pretty simple, requires no welding (like the dropped hangers would) and i think anything under 2" you dont have to worry about anything other than some trimming on the lower portion of your fan shroud (others feel free to corect me if i am wrong here) IMOP if your just wanting a little extra height and some bigger meats that would be the way to go.
You can do longer shackles but they can have an effect on driveline angles and up front that means your caster will be a tad on the low side, but some shims can fix that for ya so i wont be so squirely on the road. Rember with longer shackles what ever the length over stock is cut that in half and its your lift height.
So for example if your stock shackles is 4 inches eye to eye and you buy a 6 inch shackles eye to eye it will yeild 1 inch of lift.

I have six inch (3" lift) shackles on the rear. I had tried them in the front but could never get the caster good enough for highway driving.

I will look into the body lift. I should have just gotten Alcan springs made to my spec.

If anyone has any experience with a body lift I would like to know how it went.
