Has anyone run the TSL Super Swamper Radial? Curious about how many miles I will get out of them.

I want a siped mud-terrain tire, 35x12.50r15. Anyone know the cost to get BFGs siped? I'm considering all the usual suspects - TSL SSRs, Toyo OC MTs, Goodyear MTRs, BFG Muds. If the SSRs will last a decent amount of time, I'm leaning towards them.

I have had all of those tires on one truck or the other ... went back to BFGs(40-55k) this time TSl(25K) radial worked well and lasted ok SSR(15/20k) wore out VERY fast as did the Toyos, MTRs(30k 1/4 tread didnt hook up as good anymore) didn't last as It would of thought on the trail they rocked I'm thinkin of tryin the Pro Comp Extreme M/T's next go around alot better in the rain and last closer to 40k all of these I rotated every 3k miles to get good ware

the discount tire down the road from my house is one of the only places that sipes tires that i have found locally and for a 35x12.50-15 they want 15 bux a tire.

TSL's seem to last a lot longer than the SSR's for some reason.

siping varries, I would not spend more than $15.00 for one tho.

The BFG mt's siped are an excellent tire.. MTR's are as well.

If you want the mileage I would go BFG's..

The road life of the Extreme M/T's seems good but they are really not good in rain, I dont have the siped though.

would you think you would loose any miles on the BFG muds by siping them?

SSRs are LOUD....and don't wear that well. The bias plys seem to hold up better to wear and aren't as loud.

Really? I had heard the SSRs were surprisingly quiet from a couple of different people. They are actually louder than the regular Swampers? I'd also read that the radial wears a lot better than the bias-ply. Have you owned both? (Don't want to sound accusing here, it is just the opposite of what I have heard everywhere else.)

Well, theoretically they will last longer on-road. Siping - What is it? Questions Answered Here Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Siping reduces heat in the rubber allowing it to last longer.

But off-road, you are weakening the lug, so it would be easier to break off. I think that is why the SSRs have only the center lugs siped.

Ducks is right, theoretically it will make the tire run cooler and increase longevity. However, the additional biting surfaces can wear a bit faster. On the BFG MT's I have dealt with that were siped, it was not a large impact.

Mileage will really depend on the driving. Of you are playing on slickrock all the time or on very sharp rocks then the mileage you get out of your tires will suffer no matter what.

SSR's are not any louder than a standard TSL. In fact they are a bit quieter than the bias due to slight differences in tread patterns. But they are not even close to being a quiet tire. The sipes that SSR's have are minimal. Do not think that they would not benefit from being taken down and having sipes installed.

Sipes should only be done in the inner lugs no matter the tire. It can cause significant wear to the outer lugs.

SSR's have a different tread compound that does not seem to wear as well as a standard swamper. They were basicaly designed as a "mud" tire for the street. The Bias and the Radial TSL's seems to wear about the same. But to get good longevity all of the road miles should be at full inflation. Running at 12 psi on the street will kill a set of TSL's in VERY short order. But it does ride nice ;)

I really do not like Pro comp tires...

so what you are saying is that as long as im not ripping the chunks off of em on the rocks and smokin em on the slick stuff then they "should" last longer being siped.

yes i know alot will be determined by driving style and terrain just trying to decide if i wanna sipe em. off road traction is always good but also want em to last till i do my SOA and have the 37's (a year or so ish...) I love buying new tires its like christmas to me I just hate the price tag that comes with them:doh:

good tire off road.

They suck on road..

OK so what about mickey thomson baja claw radial, how bad do they ware compared to BFG's they are real close to the same price as BFG's. and what if you sipped the CLAWs how bout then?

i have heard those are great tires just a little loud.

Most mud tire will get you 30k BUT you have to rotate them every 3k or they'll get real load ... nothing last like BFG ....TSL and LTB wear for ever if you can stand the bouncing :bounce::steer::bounce2:

P.S. I sell tires for a living :grinpimp:I see alot of them on alot of trucks:lol:

did the same for bout 4 years but only for 2 of those did i work for a company that sold BFG and only a select few of my customers got MT's much less swampers.

Im looking towards the 35x12.50-15 LTB coming out in april....

just dunno if its gonna be to small on my truck after the SOA, would be perfect now tho... Hmmm maybe its an excuse to buy new tires again after the SOA.....:grinpimp:

i will be honest i like the look of the CLAWS, what kind of mileage they getting, and my bad if iam taking away from the threads orignal question.
cheers

I've owned both TSL and now SSR, both on FJ60.

TSL is nasty on the street and scary on wet pavement, but the best tire on the trail. Sold the set because they were too nasty for a daily street driver w/ occasional long trips to the trailhead.

SSR is still a noisy mud radial on the street, but nicer than the bias. Pretty good offroad, but a brand new SSR has less tread depth than a TSL, so the overall longevity works out the same. 3 of my radials are round, but one of them has a persistent low speed thunk from an out of position belt. Oh well.
