Getting ready to purchase a lift and tires. I like the idea of 34x10.5's and the price of the swampers. Does anybody have any experience with these? I have run BFG's in the past and loved them, and I am still considering the 33x10.5's.

The LTB's are about the worst Super Swamper you can buy. They won't balance for s***, and if they do, they'll be out in a week.

Good if you're strictly off road, but if you're traveling down the highway.....not the tire I'd recommend. I had a set of 33X13.50's and sold them in less than a month.

Good Luck.

I second TJDIV. Found a good deal on a set of 34x10.5x15 LTBs for the 40 and couldn't resist. But they are bias-ply, not so good for road driving (loud, un-balanced) but they are GREAT off-road at slow speed when needing grip.

I've got 32x11.5 BFG Mud Terrains on the 60...fine for highway. Stick with the radial BFGs.

I ran a set of 34x9.50's TSL's on my 60 for the last 20K .....their about 3/4 wore out now.Great off-road not so good on and remember the TSL is road rated where the LTB isn't intended for road use

Get the kumho road venture mt's.http://www.kumhotireusa.com/Product...ooks almost like the bfg mt

It depends what you want. I'm running those 34" LTBs and like them. yeah, it rides really rough and they roar on the highway. The biased ply makes them corner funny and in the mornings it's SUPER rough for the first couple of mines. don't expect long tread life either (read like 15-20k). I DD my rig and love these tires. Great offroad and I just live driving the truck with all it's character, loud rough and tough.

If using these as an off-road/gravel road tire what are everyone's thoughts? I have an extra set of rims and nearly new BFG 32x11.5x15 AT's for on-road use.

I hope to be using the truck in Africa within the next year so most use will be over there.

Thoughts? Alternate ideas?

LTBs are awesome! Off-road, that is. List mod Euclid related the story years ago that unlocked but riding on Swampers, he was able to get through mud bogs easier than front and rear locked trucks riding on regular MTs. I use them, for off-road work, because they are practically bullet proof, especially in the sidewall area. I switched to them after slicing three BFG MT sidewalls in one summer. They have the largest sidewall lugs that Interco makes, because of their bias ply build, and they work just like paddle wheels in any soft surface. They don't grab slickrock, like in Utah, as well as a radial ply tire does.
LTBs are crappy! On-road, that is, but if your DDing doesn't include interstate driving much, then their bad side won't be too much of a problem. They won't wear as well as a radial tire will either. If you have two sets of wheels and a floor jack, them swapping them back and forth is a great way to go. That's what I do.

Flat spots on cold mornings until you warm them up, very hard to balance, had seen some production defects that amount to large divots/craters coming out of the treads, loud on road, as was said, as biased ply tires they corner a little soft...that being said they wheel excellently, are very sticky and are a tire I would trust in the woods...I don't know about prolonged expedition style though...might want something erring on the side of tough and harder for securities sake

run 34x10.5's on my 62, x2 on loud, wear fast and flat spots. also crappy on rain/ice/packed snow.

great for dirt, mud, deep snow and rock.

skinnies rule.

bias ply tires are not meant to be balanced, and it is a waste of time and money to do so.... they will develop flat spots when sitting but will round back out after you drive for a while and they warm up. but as for balance it is generally best to either use internal balancing media or not to balance them at all.
but if your buying a bias ply tire your vehicle probably doesnt see a ton of street time anyway, if your vehicle is a daily driver bias ply tires are sorta a waste of money as they will wear faster due to higher heat levels that they generate. for a daily driver a radial tire will be best suited.

this experience comes from a long background in the automotive industry and an equally as long background in tire and service shops.

the LTB IMOP is an awesome tire for offroad it like most bias ply tires with large lugs will be loud and may have some vibration, some more so than others.

I run 38.5's on my spring over that are old and wore and when i first leave in it on the road it is a rough ride but they do round out eventually and it smooths out to a pretty tolerable ride. that said i wouldnt want to daily drive on them do to the distance they take to round back out when coldm the summer isnt as bad but still.

I had a set of 34x10.50 on a Cherokee with worn out suspension/steering and it death wobbled like a mother and drove terribly. If you do lots of on road driving at 40+ mph I would not go with an LTB. Off road and under about 35-40 mph on road I loved them.I tore through mud bogs that my locked friends running bigger tires were having trouble with and, personally, I love the roar of the tire on the road. Like someone else said, in the rain/ice/packed snow they were TERRIBLE. I slid into a couple intersections. IMOP, if you are using them strictly off-road they are pretty unstoppable, but on the road I would think twice.

That said, I have a set of 36 inch bias ply TSLs on my 40 and they are great on and off road. If you REALLY want a swamper, but tend to do lots of road driving I would go with a TSL bias or radial, an SSR radial, or the Truxxus MTs.

If you just found a killer deal on a set of LTBs, though, buy them and run two sets of tires.

I run 35 LTB's on my 60 and they are impressive off road. On road they are like everyone says. I keep my truck on jack stand when no in use to help with the flat spots.

Did I tell you they are incredible off road?

I was seriously considering buying these for my 60. I ended up with SSR based on a few local comments. I drove the SSR's 1000km my first weekend to get to an event and wheeled them in muddy/snowy/wooded trails. They were great. On the higheay they were great. They are no louder while driving other than when coasting with the revs down. Handling was about the same as my older tires. Traction offroad was way better. This is my first set of swampers but it certainly won't be my last. I did need to trim the fender a touch in the front and need to run wheel spacers or different rims in the near future to stop the rubbing on the springs.
