Don’t know where else to put this, but unfortunately this looks like this is not a well visited corner of Mud.

I saw this on an eBay ad. If I had to guess it looks like Dubai so maybe one of our international members may know.

What I want to know is, what is the pole those dudes are using to put their light so high?

Fist pic, is one of the light on a collapsible pole of some kind. The other is the light that is supposedly on the end of it.

What’s interesting is how high it is, how it looks to have some flex, and it appears to be mounted right on the battery or engine bay. Any ideas?

No. Your post intrigued me so I had to find it... I may buy one.. Amazon had a similar thing but it's 'currently unavailable' ... I'm still searching cuz it looks damn cool. Remote control too to turn it into a flashing party light! What's not to love?

Your telling me! I have been googling and found a few on eBay for about $35. One was one the Walmart app for $26 with free shipping. They are all about 50 watts, so ~2000lms. The YouTube video had a couple international links for some that are about 150 watts~ 20000lms!

The thing does look pretty awesome, seems like a lot of benefits. I would guess that all the light is being shot downward is the major advantage. I am surprised that this is not more widely known or used in the States. I cant believe that I am the first person to stumble upon this, surely someone has some experience with them.

I think lighting up a campsight once settled would be better than any old led light on a painter pole. From the picks, it looks like you could literally play ultimate frisbee or something with it.

I think I know what Santa is getting me.

Post up links to what you find. I will too. 2K lms is ok, but 20K! Wow. Frisbee is right.

No, no reply at all. Honestly, I didn’t except a reply. The website seems shady but I have not tried again either. They do look to have the best options for lighting, it’s a shame really. I think I am going to try one of the eBay deals.

Thanks. If you get one, please post your thoughts.

I ordered a couple from ebay and they're in transit -- Will post pix when they arrive.

I ordered those for no particular reason other than price was right and 3K lumens is plenty (on high). There was also a youtube vid on those that I can't find right now and they looked ok. Plus, I liked the sand stake they provide.
Nice. I have not ordered one from eBay yet for two reasons. One I have been out of town and not had time to sit down and do it. The other before I left, I saw that for basically the same money, or a little more, I could order the set up by individual pieces with brighter panels. The panels from the original pic above are 70w and look to be a better led than some of the ones in the kits on eBay.

The only thing I would be missing is a carrying case (whatevs) and a sand stake. And possibly figuring out how to mount panels to the rod which I don’t think would be to hard.

Either way; light, low draw, portable, large area, downward facing light just looks awesome. I look forward to you thoughts and I’ll let y’all know what I end up doing.

I ordered one, should be here by the end of December. Ill post my thoughts when it comes

Rec'd my order of these: LINK

Have to say the LEDs are astoundingly bright. I set it up in my backyard and it really does light up everything. It's that typical bright white LED, so not exactly pleasing, but it's a great no-mess lighting. Plug into cig lighter so don't have to go directly to battery, though it comes with an adapter if you need or want to do that.

Comes with a sand stake (the ring'd thing in the pic), so one can use it in the open, rather than tethered to the car.

The quality of the LED components and wiring and controller is excellent. Can't complain there, but the pole however, is cheap and feels like it, but it works fine. Hardware to put everything together is made from soup cans.

Comes with zero instructions, but they're really not necessary.

Haha, that’s the exact one I ordered! I picked that one due to the pic that seemed to show better quality connections and components.

How big of an area do you think it lights up? Are we talking street lamp lighting, or brighter? Any pics? If not, mine will be here Jan 15.

No pics at the moment, but when I get a min I'll take some --

Easily lights up my backyard, or at least a 30'x30' section of it and falling off after that. If you want to light up a camping spot, no problem.

There's an LED streetlamp just on the other side of the back yard wall and I'd say it was comparable. Funny, too, I know the street lamps are low-voltage at 12V, I think. Again, the brightness is astounding.

I see on Amazon there are some auxiliary 12V batteries people use for these - They look like the large cells in a UPS backup.

Awesome, I can’t wait to see mine. I don’t know why these aren’t more popular or widespread here in the states. Seems like a no brainer and could possibly replace all my lanterns.

Can you explain your line of thinking on using the batteries you mentioned on amazon? What advantage would it provide outside of the vehicle battery? Except possibly having it’s one power source.

Seems like two or three of these could provide a field of lighting.

I imagine the draw is low, and have no idea how long it would take to drain a starting battery, but I guess that's the point of using a separate one. Somebody can do the math ... :p
