Hey all,
Gotta leaky rain gutter in dire need of attention. Trouble is Im short on time, a garage, warm weather, dry weather. what would you use to seal it for a month or so, then scrape it out an do it rite?
silicone maybe? thanks

Silicone maybe. If it’s just temporary and you’re going to do it right in the spring why not just tough it out? If not, use some dish soap to clean everything up and then just caulk it till you can really get after it.

Not silicone - When it cures releases acid, so it's corrosive - Unless you use one that says, 'Neutral Cure' ..

Use a product made for gutter sealant.

I used a couple tubes of this when my windshield leaked, and used it on the gutter, too, but you might be better off (and it's cheaper) to get one of the gutter sealant tubes from Home Depot, etc.

Hi, Red painters tape will last that long, I've done it. Not duct tape. Mike

Whats Red Painters Tape? Is that the vinyl-ish tape for stucco?

I’ll just call you Mike “Macgyver “

Thanks for all the ideas good stuff Ill steer clear of the regular silicone and get the gutter sealant and put the red tape over it for good measure!

just curious what you ended up doing? need to do the same unless I want to turn my passenger side into a swimming pool

I see no point in a “temporary” fix for leaking gutters. It took me 15 minutes to chip out the old seam sealer and vacuum the gutters out. Add in another 15-20 to wire wheel any rust spots after which you can lay in a new bead of sealant. Smooth it out with your finger and done.

I’d guess it will take more time to squirt flowable silicone and apply tape to random places you think it’s leaking... and it will take 4X as long to do it properly when you want to remove all of the tape residue and silicone.

in my current situation i have 0 tools to properly do the job. i would just wait but i keep getting a substantial amount of water in the cab after every rain.

You could do this job on the street with a flathead screwdriver, caulking gun & some sand paper.

Order a tube of automotive seam sealer on amazon or go to an auto parts store and get it.

yeah, that's what i plan on doing for the most part. was going to scrape off the old and get it with a wire brush. my first time tackling something like this so there's also the anxiety part of it!

Spray it with corroseal first then caulk it.
