I noticed today that all the sudden the engine started to ping, but only at low RPMs and when getting rolling after stopping at lites or turning corners. Once you get going it stops pinging. The only two different things today were that I filled up the tank at Costco with 87 octane gas (normally gas at Chevron or Albertsons)
Also another different factor which I am not sure if it make a difference is that the temperature today jumped to 70 degrees, it has been around the 40s and 50s during the few past days.
Do you guys think the pinging is caused by bad gas and the sudden temperature changes?
Any other factors?

More details:
Recent tuneup about a month ago.
New NGK Iridium spark plugs
New NGK Ignition wires
New cap and rotor
New PCV valve and grommets
Changed oil and filter (Napa Gold)
Tranny service
All diff oils changed to Mobil 1
Tranfer case oil changed to Mobil 1
New TRD air filter

Thanks,

I'd guess it was the lower quality gas and the warmer temps. Do they use winter blend down there? If so, it's perhaps got some problems burning when things get warm outside.

probably the gas but just in case check your timing.

That is what I was thinking because I never had this problem before, I am sure Costco uses cheapo gas with major additives for winter driving and since the weather here in SW Idaho just changed from the 30-40's to the 70's almost overnite I am sure that has something to do with the pinging. I noticed this morning on the way to work that it was ok, of course mornings are still on the 40's around here, lets see what happens at noon.

Thanks,

I've seen this before and have exclusively used Chevron w/ techron gas - once in a while Shell - for years.

On a related note, I received an email yesterday citing all major retail gasoline companies who import their petrol products from the Middle East - and how much of our weekly fill-up cash goes right into the pockets of terrorist supporting Nations - who actually want to kill us :flipoff2: . Have you seen this? The point was to buy gas from a select list of non-Middle East importing companies - I recall Hess and BP being two. I'll see if I can dig it up. We Land Cruiser drivers LOVE the gas and what a big impact we collectively could make - if it's true after checking the facts  . Tom

Actually, BP fuel is `good' fuel. I'm quite suprised they are not on the list. Most of the time the base fuel is all out of the same refinery and each oil company is nothing more than a working interest owner in the supply chain, and then they put their own additives in later.

Thus, is that list the top-tier additives companies?

It may be the combinaton of the fuel, temperature and the aftermarket secondary ignition components.,

I think will take all that aftermarket stuff out and order Cdan OE parts and see if that solves the problem.

Not sure but if I were to venture a guess I would say probably 95% or more of the board run OEM parts whenever available.
