OK, for some reason my 4 speed transmission is stuck in reverse. Pretty sure it was working fine last fall. I pulled out the shift lever and put it back in and it still isn't doing anything different. It seems like the shift lever isn't able to shift the gears. I don't know if the gears themselves are stuck, or if the shifter isn't in there right...

Anybody have any ideas?

Take the shift lever out and look inside the top cover (with a flashlight) at the shift rod slots. There are 3 of them and all 3 slots have to line up straight across. Use a large screw driver or a pry bar to line them up. When they ae all in line, put the lever back in and check it.

Thanks!!! Thats all there was to it. The hard part was getting the springy "locking cap" in place.

Old thread...but sage advice.

If you have removed your shift lever and reinstalled it, but cannot run through the gears.....the solution is above. Stare down the top cover and you'll see what needs to be aligned.....just like the man said above.

Thanks....first test drive in 9 months in the AM.

Hey guys little help with this issue.
While I’m waiting for my body to come back from the media blaster I thought I’d start going through the mechanicals to make sure everything was running properly. I got the motor and drivetrain on the chassis I noticed I’m stuck in reverse. I pulled the shift lever and have the three slots lined up I can shift one and 2 , and three and four but reverse won’t budge. The vehicle is up on jackstands It is in 2 Wheel Dr.
I tried to gently rocking the rear wheels back-and-forth to takeoff any tension but no luck. I also noticed I can’t shift between four wheel low and four wheel hi. Scratching my head on this one.
the clutch is not operative. I guess I Could try and engage the clutch manually if you think that would help thanks

Somethings wrong.
remove top cover and take a peek inside.
Maybe the reverse gear fork is not in its gear

Will do - Thanks!

I'm going in red leader.....

Well I got the small cover off and confession time I’m not really even sure what I’m looking for. I can take the large cover off and go from there but I’m still a pilgrim when it comes to sort and the stuff out, any guidance would be greatly appreciated thank you
