Hey Guys,
I have an early 80s BJ60 sitting in my driveway. I got it because I wanted the engine/tranny out of it for my BJ42. I'm thinking I should get to work stripping it ASAP so I can part out whats left or sell it as a parts vehicle.

At this point I am taking:

Engine
transmission
transfer case
radiator
Maybe front/rear axles

IIRC there is a bunch of work required to put 60 axles on a 40 and if that's the case, I'm thinkin' I'll just pull the gears out of the axles for my 40. Will this work? There is a lot of play in my rear drive shaft and I dunno if I can fix it by shimming the diff. I'm also not sure that it has 4.11s and I'm willing to bet that the 60 does.

Is there anything else I should salvage for my 40? I'm wondering how much of the fuel system I should take. Do they take the same rear brake drums (I know new ones are f'ing expensive)?

You have to be more specific as what is in that 60 or what year.
3B with 4 sp and splitcase?
That rad wont work in the 42 AFAIK.
You can use the differentials, which most likely have 3.7 ratio.
It is not a big deal to take a look and find out what will fit.
I have a bj60 with 3b and 4sp bolted to split case. That case will not bolt to any of the 40 4sps I have , so it all depends on what you have.

Thanks for the replies.

It's a 1984 with a 3B and a 5 speed tranny (I'm assuming it's the H55F). Dunno anything about the T-case. I'm hoping it doesn't have 3.7s as I've heard the 4.11s are the way to go.

Is the rad just too wide/high? That's unfortunate because my old rad has had oil goin' through it. I guess I could probably take it into the rad place and have it cleaned out.

Yeah, I don't really want the 60 PS. I'm taking the engine with the PS pump and I think I'm gonna fab a bracket for a mini truck steering box.

Anything else you can think of that I should poach?

I'm wondering if should part it out or just sell it off as a parts vehicle...?

62 has the 4.11 gears not the 60 model.

Have tried the codes,

Here's a pic of the plate

So it looks like I have the 3.7. Well, at least they'll be good as replacements for my old gears.
