Anybody who thinks 800 bucks is too much needs to think about a couple things.

IF you choose to wheel an 80 agressively, without sliders, you WILL damage your rockers and doors.

If you choose to build your own, be certain that you are not making damage multipliers and DO be sure to add rock rails to protect the doors.

Outer rockers are about 150 bucks a piece, inners are about 120 bucks a piece and doors are about a thousand bucks a pop.

None of the above-mentioned prices includes body labor and paint.

I think Slee's sliders have adequate enough protection against all but the most pointiest of rocks placed in the perfect position.

FWIW, this is a very old set. The newer brackets are more streamline.

We are considering making a bolt on skidplate for the cats. Personally never damaged a set of cats when I wheeled with that setup and I wheeled it pretty hard.

Also, bolt on sliders can be welded on as well, just not the other way round. Also, you will be amazed at how many people do not even own a drill. As soon as you mention drilling, people shy away from the product. We see this a lot in the sales for our rear bumper.

4Plus made a set that you weld brackets to the frame, then bolt the slider on. That works, but if you have a welder and the knowledge to weld the brackets you might as well weld up your own sliders.

For bolt-on mounting, I'm surprised I haven't seen anybody drilling through the frame and sleeving the holes(it's quite possible it's been done, I just haven't seen it). Seems like the mounts wouldn't need to hang below the frame rails this way.

This is what I did...
And no, nothing hangs below the frame!

I used small DOM tube through the frame welded on both sides (this supports the frame and keeps it from *crushing*) and my sliders bolted through the DOM.
The rear is the problem as the rear control arm mount blocks the area you really need. I welded 1/4 angle cut to go around the frame here and welded studs to the plate. the plate on the sliders goes over the studs and nuts go on.

I wasn't thrilled with this idea and I was worried about it, but no problems so far! This area is actually the shortest spanner distance, so there isn't nearly as much force as on the front 2...

I can post some pics if someone want's
...although... it's raining out right now :(

Seems like the options for us with '91 & '92 FJ80's are pretty slim. All I have found available is Man-a-Fre.

Anyone with a '91 or '92 got info on sliders that I've missed?

Whoops. Just ran out and took a pic of mine.

I made up a set of George's and they're bolt on. If you do weld them on, at least have a larger base metal welded on to the frame first, then weld the outriggers to these plates. Prolly way overkill but the larger surface area will deflect less IMO.

I get a little freaked about welding on to the chassis due to improper heat/speed settings. If I was a better welder then I might weld on the chassis more.
