So today I was out playing in the fresh snow we got last night with the new to us 2004 100 series I bought last week and noticed a funny noise when the TRAC light would come on. The noise was the same noise you here if you take your finger and flick one of those springs that keep your door from hitting the wall. It would only do it if the TRAC light came on. Any ideas?

ATRAC uses the ABS system. You're probably just hearing the chatter of the ABS pump and solenoids do their thing. Completely normal. Do keep in mind that extensive use of ATRAC activation can cause the pump to overtemp and turn off. It temporarily disables ATRAC, ABS, and VSC.

Good to know. Can you define extensive use? While I was out driving which was around 1.5 hours I saw the TRAC light and heard that noise 2 or 3 times of coarse all times when I deep snow and on the gas.

If you're stuck on a muddy hill and run it continuously for 20 minutes (?) it might be enough. The system is sized for typical off road duty cycle. Normal use you'd never have a problem. I only mentioned because if you were playing out on the snow it may be engaged more than what normal driving would encounter. In your situation you weren't even close.

You are hearing ATRAC at work as it should be. It will apply brakes to the wheel that is slipping, transferring power to the other side, allowing forward progress.

When braking and ABS activates, you will tend to hear a similar noise pumping the brakes, and this has typically been louder to me than the traction control.

VSC will activate when sliding, using brakes (ABS) to manage the braking and traction - allowing traction and the ability to steer through obstacles. .
