Some of the ARB drawers has about a 1.5 in gap at the top, but the one in Markuson's pictures don't. What is the difference? S living top?

I’m pretty sure it’s just the photo angle. ARB markets their drawers as having that gap so you don’t accidentally slam your fingers in the drawer. Mine has it:

Nice I see you finally got the trim kit installed.

I think it’s just what @catastrofe said.
Probably just photo angle. I can measure and get back to you if you like. Not sure of difference with or without rolling floor/top as both of mine slide. Maybe someone with the solid (non-sliding) top can measure/compare.

look just above the “M” patch...and you can just see the edge of the roll-top handle. The first-aid patch is about 2.5” y’all for comparison/scale.

How do ARBs work? Is there a base plate similar to what Goose Gear uses?

Would the ARB fitment kits work standalone?

I'm not sure I want drawers but I'd like to put my fridge on a slide. So I was thinking of getting a goose gear base plate or fabbing one and mounting the DFG fridge slide to one side. Then between the fridge and wall build a box that would look like the ARB fit kit or Land Shark wing kit for hiding fuse block, radio brains, MPPT controller, adding outlets, etc.

Does anyone have an opinion on Dobinsons vs. ARB drawers?

I was planning to do the same setup.

Can the side trim kits be installed without the base drawers? I want a flat base plate and side trim only. Not drawers. Prefer the modularity of frontrunner boxes tied down.

No baseplate with the ARB drawer setup. The drawer system bolts to a couple of metal cross beams that are attached to existing holes in the floor. They make a roller floor, but that's not close to the GooseGear baseplate system. You can go to the Slee Offroad website and find an online ARB brochure.

I don't think the fitment kits would work without drawers as they are contoured to match the interior wall panel shape at drawer height.

Side fit kits attach to the drawer units themselves...not the floor, nor side panels. So...they need the drawers.

About modularity and boxes...
I like and use boxes too... but...you don’t have to choose.
The Beaty of drawers is that you can have items tied down on the “floor” above them...yet still carry and access heavy items like tools/recovery items without having to remove a box of toe-down. This also lets you keep heavy items as low as possible, and prevent them from flying around in a rollover.

Even better box news...with the roller-floor option over the drawers...you can even retrieve items from within boxes without removing tie-downs—because you can slide them outward over the tailgate.

The Side Kit is really just covers that mount to brackets which are attached to the drawers. It’s not like they’re compartments mounted between the drawer and vehicle.

About to pull the trigger on some ARB drawers. Are the Dobinson’s any better?

I looked at Dobinsons but went with ARB for 2 reasons:

Dobinsons only has one height...ARB offers 3.
Dobinsons only offers a slide out (ARB calls theirs a Roller Floor) on one side...with ARB you can get a Roller Floor on either side, or both sides.

HTH...

Exactly. It creates a “compartment” but only because the side panels and the outside of the drawer unit walls are there.

So it’s a pretty irregular shape. Plus, the AC recirculating intake in there. So you can’t just cram stuff, or if could block the vent.

I use that space completely, but it takes some care.
