I'm off to bed, and after a few hours sleep I'm up to catch the milk flight to San Fransisco to pick up my new '97 FJZ80. At about 10.00 am tommorow I will be starting the 500 mile journey home with the unkown beasty. Ridicule, advice and prayers all requested and if anyone of you sees a stranded black Land Cruiser on Hwy 101 south tommorow please drop by for a chat.

 good luck and wish you the best with the new beast!!!! :flipoff2:

Too bad you're not headed east on I-80. You'd hit Sacramento around lunch time...I could've bought you lunch :D

Safe journey.

Congrats, Nice Fourth of July present to yourself. I myself am getting a green one next week.

Congrats. You will be fine. We expect pics and details.

Good luck, Congrats! I drove 1700 miles about 20 min. after I picked mine up. Make sure you check the fluids if you have the means.
Have fun!

Congrats and enjoy the ride!

(1700 miles about 20 mins  ) I drove da 450 from CA to NYC 3000 miles in 3 days and 3 night...that means at least EACH DAY i have to make and drive about 1000 miles in order to make it in 3days (Coast to Coast) What are you smokin crack there??? 1700 miles in 20 mins>?? :flipoff2:

good luck...realize that the LOW GAS light comes on and you still have 5 gallons left...should make for less stopping.

That's pretty quick. By my reckoning that's 5100miles per hour. You would want a good set or brake pads in the front !!!

Safe journey.

He should have just gotten you to drive it to him..., and then buy him lunch afterwards... Mr. Nice Guy :D

Good Luck.

I drove a paltry [compare to your journey] 254 miles last week to pick mine up and it was quite relaxing. I kept it at 65 and on cruise and it was as if I had auto pilot on. I also only waisted a smidgen over a half a tank of gas. I was impressed with the miles per gallon results.

Hopefully I'm good to go for another 10 years, besides you don't have to campaign for me Doug..., remember I was the one that voted for you. :D

I left home this morning at 5.15am to go to the airport to fly to the bay area. Bought the '97 Land Cruiser and drove the 555 miles home. I'ts just gone 11pm and not only did I make it, the drive was a dream.

Freeway at 65 - 72 mph all the way, a/c full balst all the way (it was 103F in the Mojave) and it did a scientificaly measured 16.15 miles/gallon which pleased me much. The gauges all stayed at normal and it used no noticable oil. So tommorow I'm heading down the back hill to try out the 4x4 stuff.

THANK YOU ALL for helping me in this purchase. I think I will be happy and I'll get an avatar pic up soon.

Michael,
Glad everything went well for you! I did the same thing a few years ago. Caught the first flight out from Ontario airport to San Jose and met seller and drove to Redwood City and picked up the truck. Drove it back to LA w/ no issues at all! Just baseline everything and you should be good to go!

Congrats again on getting the truck! Also, post some pics as soon as you can!!!
