My '74 FJ 40 was stolen sometime today between 9 am and 2 pm. I live in the Spanish Trail - Harrison area.

The crusier has a full cage, no top, hard or soft, and no doors. It is SOA with 37" tires, a cheapie winch on the front and highlift jack mounted with the spare tire on the rear.

It is faded green with a tan hood and front fender. The rocker panels have been replaced by sliders and the fenders and rear wheel wells are trimmed and tube protected.

The license plate is LIVEFRE and the cops are in the loop. I've tried to add a picture but I'm not sure if I was successful.

If you happen to see my cruiser anywhere please call the police, thanks-

Distinctive- should turn up somewhere if people are looking. I'd guess (and hope) it was someone looking for a joyride.

Sorry to hear. People suck!

Best of luck and I hope it finds it's way back to you soon.

That sucks man!! I definately know how you feel!! Mine was stolen in Tucson about 3 years ago and it was recovered in no small part by this forum. I hope it turns up soon and I will keep my eyes open!!

I've narrowed down the time when it was taken to between 12:00 and 2:00 this afternoon.
While calling the cops I drove to Reddington and talked to some folks at the end of the pavement about it.

Turns out I should've gone the other direction, the police spotted it at 2pm on the frontage road at speedway and the freeway. According to the officer who just left, whoever spotted it realized it was on their "ATL" attempt to locate list after it had passed. It will now be listed as stolen.

Thanks to everyone for keeping a look-out for it. I've been trying to get it running right for over 10 years....

I work in the Marana/Avra Valley area and commute from Oracle, I'll keep an eye out. That one should be easy to spot.

I saw your truck yesterday July 28th around 1:30 driving west on 6th st through the 6th and campbell intersection. I work at the pizza shop on the corner and notice every cruiser that drives by daily. I had never seen yours before and I hadnt checked this thread until now. If they drive by again in the next few days ill try to follow them stealth like and find out where they keep it:cool:

That's close to Speedway and I-10, May want to call TPD and let them know. If they are driving it around town, then you need to question their intelligence.

Which is a plus in recovering it..

I heard about this on aZfj and have been keeping an eye out...I cant believe Joel saw it..damn wish he knew about this thread before hand! what the hell are they driving it around for? I hope they get flocking popped big time!

thanks to everyone who's keeping an eye out for my old cruiser. JPH I hope you get another opportunity, it appears that it may still be in town.... I gave the police your visual update hoping it keeps them focused.
My 10 year old son had a dream last night that we got the cruiser back; I'm hoping his paranormal abilities run true.

Recovered !

An employee of a friend was walking her dog Thurs. night and spotted it at the bottom of a gravel pit on the NE side of Tucson. Not knowing the vehicle was stolen, but thinking someone may be trapped in or under it, she crawled down to investigate and grabbed the registration out of the glovebox. Unfortunately there were no bodies under or around it.
She told her boss about it Friday morning and he immediately called.

Whoever was driving it obviously had some fun before pushing or driving it over a 60' cliff into the abandoned pit, it was thoroughly covered with mud. The crusier hit the side of the cliff face, landed on its nose, and did a half twist coming to rest on the drivers side pointed at the cliff face. The thief(s) then tried to use the hi-lift to right the cuiser and even pulled out the winch cable although they may have not initially noticed the power cable to it was severed in the fall.

The cops had called a towing company (Gary's) to assist in the recovery but their 4wheel drive vehicle recovery expert wanted to pull my cruiser back up the cliff face rather than using a chain saw to remove a few mesquites, push it back on its wheels, and pull it down the slope to the bottom as I thought would be best. Gary himself arrived to see how much money they could gouge me out of and while I did not think the $125.00 an hour was outrageous I thought their methods might take more than a few hours. After arguing with Gary, toe to toe face to face, I told him I did not need his services and proceeded to call a few friends and grabbed my chainsaw.

Borderland was doing some earthwork nearby and I caught up with the foreman as they were calling it quits for the day. Five of their guys and one big loader helped me get the cruiser out the way I thought would be best, it took about a half hour. We righted it with the hi-lift jack, bending it in the process, and I steered while being pulled backward with one flat tire by the loader.

I called another tow company and will now begin the process of checking every nut and bolt.

I have some pictures I'll try to post soon, it is somewhat amazing how little obvious damage occured with the fall. The full cage tied to frame did not look tweaked at all. The hood is kinda wavy butthe front fenders with their tubed edges are straight. The tube was also straight where it wraps around the rear wheelwells although the body got punched in a bit behind the tube. Axles and springs look okay.... fluid leaks everywhere.

Thanks again to everyone for helping me try to locate it, my kids are smiling again.
