Where can I find stock pinion bearing preload shims.

I replaced the bearings in my front diffferential and the preload is too tight now with the original spacer and shim. Local Toy dealer says 'not available'. McMaster's aren't too close to the right size.

90564-30035 from Toyota (0.25mm). I also got some from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters.

The "washer" is also part of the preload shim pack, and one of those is still available from Toyota, 90560-30191. It is one of the thicker ones they made, so it can be lightly sanded down if needed.

Thanks Henry

Toyota uses a preload washer to set the preload. There are 25 of them in different thicknesses. Toyota uses preload shims to adjust for the pinion depth. You use 0 to 3 shims to compensate for the 4 diffferent sizes of pinion depth shims.

The original shim behind the large bearing race was reinstalled with the new bearing race. The preload was adjusted with the nut to check the marking pattern. The pattern looked good and was the same as before disassembly.

To finalize the bearing replacement I installed the .114" washer (bevel toward the gear) and a .015" shim (exactly the same diameter as the washer and was in there previously). This gave a total of .128" and the preload was too tight (15 in/lbs with 60ft/lbs on the nut).

Figure I need a thicker washer or a little more shim. I could add more shim to the pinion offset and see what the pattern does. This is the original R&P so I figured that the same shims would put me back in a nominial location and same wear area on the teeth.

Any advice would be appreciated.
