I have an FJ40 with a 1980 4bd1 engine. I'm not getting enough action out of the slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is from the NPR truck the engine came out of. The master is not the original, but is the Toyota master for my year Landcruiser (1969).

I bought this vehicle with the swap already done. I changed the clutch plate and it seems the only reason the slave cylinder had enough action before is because the old clutch plate was worn completely smooth.

I think my best option is to get a master cylinder that better matches my slave cylinder. It appears there was a different master installed at some point. You can see on the firewall other mounting holes and an outline of what looks like a master cylinder (picture below).

Does anyone know the volume of the stock toyota master cylinder?

Does anyone have any recommendations on a larger master cylinder I can replace it with?

Can anyone tell from the picture below what master cylinder may have been installed previously?

Can't help with the id, but I have a 4BD2 in my 60 and use the stock 60 series clutch master and slave. My clutch works great - good feel and operation, and has over 50k miles on it.

May be easier swap back to stock?

I have been thinking about going back to the stock slave cylinder but I wasn't sure if it'd work. I guess it makes since it would, since it's a FJ40 pressure plate, clutch plate, and m/c. I've just been trying to work with what i got. So, I've been trying to get this set up to work. I read on another thread using an early brake mc that has 1" diameter bore might be an option. I happen to have one to try, so I'll do that first.
If that doesn't work, I'll probably try the stock slave cylinder. If that doesn't work, I'll probably try to find the m/c for the NPR truck. I posted this question in the FJ40 forum and JohnnyC said the outline and cutout looked like a clutch booster was installed.
