It's hurricane season here in Florida, which means 5 o'clock rains everyday.

the last heavy rain caused a NICe puddle on the floor of my passenger footwell, under the carpet.

After two days with the carpet pulled up and a fan on it, I cleaned the drains out, and tested them they seem to be fine.

I noticed that the water is dripping on the plastic cover just to the side of where your right foot would be if you were sitting in the passenger seat. I can see the drip marks running down that piece.

What are the chances that the windshield is the culprit?

I can't tell if it is the OEM one, although it is chipped, it seems to have some mileage on it.

Could the drains be ok, but the windshield is leaking?

and I can't thank you guys on the forum enough, I love my LC and would never have bought it without having you guys here.

Windshield leaks in Land Cruisers are extremely common. That's probably your problem. The 80 requires that the glass be glued in, and most glass shops either don't believe, or don't want to do it.

I had to take the FSM into the glass shop I go to, show the tech personally, and since then he has done all 3 of my wagons for me. All 3 had difficult to pinpoint leaks before, and none after, so preety sure that was the cause.

SafetyLite Glass doesn't fit very well, so if you have that glass, that's another possibility. I ask for PPG glass, and have had excellent luck with that, and it's way cheaper than Toyota glass (which is something crazy like $750).

I second the windshield being a likely culprit. I went through the same routine of cleaning the sunroof drains, and still getting water in. I also can see it running down the panel just in front of the door. On mine I was actually able to see a wet spot right at the base of the windshield about 6" from the corner so that pretty well proves it.

Haven't gotten it fixed yet though. The leak is pretty slow, and we're into summer here where it doesn't rain so much. Should really deal with this in the fall though...

I had my front windshield put in by a glass shop as well and sure enough, I can see the exact spot where water leaks in from.

:( My window is cracked and have to replace...... saddens me I will have to take this gamble. Even shops that are good from what I have heard can't get it right.

double check the rubber surrounding your sunroof I had the same problem you are describing and some one posted that the rubber gets mashed down over time and that the sun roof would need to be replaced! Screw that I took some black silicone and glued the bastard shut guess what....... since then my floors have been dry as a bone. Good luck

I've had the problem where even when the drains are working, they can get overwhelmed in heavy rains. The sunroof seal is not designed to stop all water, hence the drains, but the drains, can't drain the water fast enough, if the sunroof seal has a significant leak and the water is coming down fast enough. The water will top over the sunroof lip and down the A pillar and onto your carpet.

I'd put a tarp over your rig for now when you park if it rains that much. Can't hurt anything and will save you the headache of constantly drying your interior. There's nothing worse than moldy carpet or interior.

Maybe consider a car cover if looks or appearance is an issue.

I agree it's probably your windshield. I had a leak.... cleared the drains from the top and tested them by pouring water down, also cleared the very fine drains in the rocker panels. Since I've just pulled the forward most plastic plug out so the water definitely has somewhere to drain. In the end I ran a bead of clear silicone around the inside and outside edges of the windshield gasket and haven't had any water since. A little hillbilly i know, but it's hardly noticeable and was way cheaper than a new windshield.

Or have you looked to see if the rubber pipe has come off the sunroof drain, just pull the door rubber of a bit & pull the head lining down & you can clearly see.

well, since I now have a chip in my windshield, looks like I'll be grabbing my FSM and heading to the local auto glass shop...

We have a place here in town called Lloyds. they say you get a free box of steaks with every windshield!!!

Go and get the Toyota OEM windshield gasket, waayyyy better than the aftermarket gasket the shops use.:meh:

I totally agree with this. It may be the best $30 you spend on the windshield job.

I Had the same leak, Windshield. I did OEM Gasket, and aftermarket glass..leak gone. Mine leaked in the bottom corner of both sides...

Same issue - leaked at both corners but I started with the OEM gasket. Took the windshield company 5 times to get it right. I can see that they used RTV under the windshield and on the top lip of the gasket at the bottom part of the glass. Concerned about how long its going to last, got them to right me a lifetime guarantee for any leaks.

Looks like I'll be calling CDAN monday, order a seal and grab some black RTV, and sit there with the installer to make sure this is right.

I can't keep hiding from rain, it's! embarrassing

My problem was close to JOINERMAN's.

My sunroof drains were clear when I ran weed-eater string down there, but leaking where the tube clamped to the molded sheet metal nipple of the sunroof. It was running behind the headliner, down the A-pillar and onto the carpet.

I had to take off my sun visor, hand-grip, and a-pillar molding and pull the headliner down to get to it. Once I did that, I braced the headliner open and poured water in the drains from above and quickly saw where it was leaking. I pulled the tube and clamp off, put silicone on the "nipple" and reconnected the tube and clamp. PRESTO....FIXED....

That's worth a shot before buying a windshield.

I had the same problem for years and the only cure was to have a new screen fiited and have it glued in, no more leaks now :-)
