I just replaced my rack, axles, ball joints, tie rods and all four shocks on my 2000 LC.

What a difference.

Kudos to @fooldall1 . It was the rack. Drives great now. Hopefully this thread will help the next guy diagnose his heavy steering that isn’t returning to center properly. Check your fluid, alignment, ball joints, TRE’s, pump then rack.

Glad it's working for you! It's been almost a year now on the Reman DA Rack and going strong!

One other word of advice - change the coils and plugs. Or, carry a spare coil and plug at all times (and the tools to change them).

Enjoy your new toy! I still love mine- now that I can parallel park, that is. :)

I have this problem:doh:

Good news: you guys/gals look to have done an excellent job of Id'ing the issue with corrective action.

Bad news: I was afraid of this, now I have to creep down this road:bang:

Are your symptoms identical? Do tell.

seems to be identical. I will have to study up on this, but it's been bugging me since purchased w 124k miles. there was some dealer history on the rig, but no mention of rack.

It was fully checked out by a front end place, but you know how that goes (as evidenced by your chasing down the problem).

As a side, the sketchy used car sales place provided docs w/r to changing timing belt, but I don't trust them (no sticker, etc.). Fluids are super dirty (I know....), thus believe the rack might be the problem.

I move super slow (kinda like my 60), but will keep this thread appraised of my actions.

It's sure a nice feeling finally having it fixed. Nothing worse than pinpointing the problem and spending a good amount of money on your theory and then it not work. Been down that road!

Once the PS fluid turns to crap, the rack will follow soon after.

@fooldall1 , did DA give you instructions on how to send your core in for the warranty?

@Live to Ski , what are your favorite ski slopes? We hit CO.

There's a return label in the box. I just drained as much fluid as possible and wrapped it in plastic and used the same box. Called...ups I think it was for a ground pickup. Easy breezy. If your label is missing call them and let them know because the return of the rack will activate your lifetime warranty.
