I drive a 91 Toyota standard cab pickup to work every day. It is a great truck with only 76k miles but it is slow, noisy, rides bad, etc. Plus it is small so two adults pretty much leaves only the bed for storage.
I looked a 89 fj62 today with mid 230k miles. The truck is clean in and out but has a few problems...
-leaking rear main seal
-brake pedal goes almost too the floor (not sure what the cause of this is)
-power windows are slow on some windows and stuck on others
-power ant. is broken
-steering in slow turns seems to require a lot of effort, then gets easy like something is wrong with the power steering
-general looseness of the body/steering during normal driving
-fuel gauge shows empty all the time
-engine stalled a few times on me
Asking price is $3k
The LC is nicer than my normal ride, sits up higher, and has a lot more room. I also think that these trucks are going to appreciate in value as they get older. I am used to slow/rough riding vehicles so that is not much of an issue. The gas mileage is not too much of a concern for me since I only go about 150 miles a week. I was quoted $900 to replace the rear main which seems high but is not out of the question.
My biggest concern is reliability since this would be my daily driver. I would take the truck to my mechanic for a look over before handing over the cash. Considering the above (condition and price) should I pass on this one or keep it in consideration.
