How low does your steering wheel go down? I’ve searched on mud but can’t seem to find an answer to this. I like having mine in the lowest position as to not impede my view. Last year, I had the dealership disable the auto tilt/telescope feature because the telescope motor was starting to act it’s age (2004 LC). The tilt still works fine, but never felt it’s quite low enough for me. This pic, with level, shows I’m a few inches from instrument cluster at lowest position. Thanks for any replies.

What visually appears “a whole lot more than that”…

From my perspective, from the driver’s seat, the rim of the wheel is slightly below the top of the dash.

Yours does seem lower. Strange because my tilt motor seems to works fine (full range), I wonder if it can be calibrated/reindexed? I don’t have tech stream, had the dealer turn feature off last year. Do you think there are settings for tilt range?

Thank you.

While I do have Techstream, I’ve never really looked into it. At my son’s (5” shorter, and 50 lb lighter) preferred setting, it makes it difficult (for me) to get in, and blocks my view of the gauge cluster, but at my preferred setting, I have no issues.

If you repeatedly pull the lever down 6-7 times, it’ll go a bit further. Same with in/out.

@hoser That worked, wow. How did you even find that out? It’s not in the manual. Thanks, appreciate it!

Isn't it 10 times within 5 sec? It will then move until it physically stops. (Normally less than a 1/4 inch). Also works on seat position.
Looks like your car is off. Maybe it’s just an LX thing, but my 02 moves up and out of the way when you pull the key out. Maybe something going wrong with that function, holding it higher?
If you want your adjuster motors to last, you should switch off that function right away (TechStream, e.g.). If you adjust only when needed, the motors will last for life. If on auto, they will last max 300 k miles.

I found out a long time ago when I was trying to remove my instrument cluster. That little extra bit of telescoping helps.

Yikes… But it’s so convenient!! All good things must eventually end…

I had mine disabled last year. Now, thanks to you guys, I’m back in the proper position. You think this info would exist somewhere.

Did you steering wheel go down as far as JLB's? Because his seems normal.

Yes, pretty close — thanks again for the tip. I bet it’s not mentioned anywhere else on this forum.

I did like the auto feature until my telescoping motor starting making noise.

Sorry to bump this old thread. Searching has not produced any info, though sometimes I suck at searching. 2003 LC.

My auto adjust tries to work but it seems the column sticks when retracting or telescoping. I can get it to move while pulling on it when manually adjusting. Like it needs lubrication between the column and the lower dash where it slides in. Is this a thing? Spray a little WD 40 in there? Other solution?

The auto adjust can eventually wear out those 2 electric motors. I turned it off.

I’ve also disabled the auto lock function due to not needing to cycle all 5 locks every time I drive somewhere.

Yes - there is another thread on this. You need to (soon) remove the telescoping motor, and clean and lube the column parts before you fry the telescoping motor. The motor will struggle for a while and die. I think spraying with WD-40 is optimistic - the guts likely have years of lint, dirt, and crud in them.

Thanks all! I've searched to no avail for this thread! Can anyone point me there?
