Hello,

My Lexus LX470 steering wheel always ends up being off center. The car drives straight, but the wheel is tilted to the left.

We have brought it in at LEAST four times to the dealer to get it fixed. Every time, they come up with a new reason and say that they fixed it.

Their latest reason is that I have BFG A/T KOs on the car and that because they are heavier tires, the steering sensor cannot properly work and center the steering wheel. They are 275/65/R18 tires, which are almost exactly the same size as the crappy stock tires that came on the truck.

I have had other experiences with the Lexus dealer when they were wrong or seemed to make things up. It seems like they might be doing it this time too. What do you all think?

Thanks!

:whoops:After four times I’d go elsewhere, if problems is then corrected; the Dealer will refund his charges for the botched job and hopefully correct there practice.

FYI: Driving straight must be on flat road, as most slope off to right. Many shop put in a little offset, which I don’t like.

Unless there is something different with the LX or LC from typical front end, steering wheel is set during front end alignment, aligning it by eye. This is best done with someone of similar weight as driver sitting in seat, not standing next to open window IMHO.

Sounds like they aren't trying very hard to correct the problem, don't believe any of the BS regarding your tires being too heavy for the the steering angle sensor to work. Can't see your MY, so the following comments are germaine to '03+ with vgrs. Assuming nothing is bent or worn beyond limits you most likely need the tie rod ends adjusted followed by a steering angle sensor recalibration done using their hand held tester/techstream. Both are FSM procedures, attached FYI.

Have a Toyota tech inspect your steering rack. The large bushing on the passenger side holds the entire rack down, if that bushing is worn out it can allow the rack to shift. My rack is bad right now and the wheel is never in the same place as before. Every time I get a new rack it's dead center.

Sounds like VGRS and a clueless Lexus service manager/tech.

Toyota won't think about VGRS either unless you tell them, but at least they have the same techstream software to get it straight and it is a walk in the park.

I got my new rack put in over the summer, as you know, and since then the wheel has never been straight. Always been off center to the left... Need to make a trip to ACC soon :bang:
