Im noticing feedback/shake from steering wheel at 65+. No problems at 60 or less which is what I typically drive. I see that the passenger side rack/pinion boot is torn at every ring/circle. The rubber is wet around the outside. There is no leaking or drip marks on the driveway. And the PS reservoir has proper levels.

Is this related to the rack/pinion?
While replacing the rack/pinion boot should i do bushings?
What is the part number for the rack/pinion boot kit?
What is the part number for the bushings?

Thanks in advance.

Your new rack and pinion will come with OEM bushings, but if you want to go aftermarket, you can go with Whiteline Performance or SuperPro poly bushings. It will also come with new boots if you order a new rack and pinion.

Thank you duggy. Do you think replacing just the rack/pinion boot and bushings will be sufficient or will the entire rack need replacing?

If it's not leaking now and the boot has not been cut up for too long, I would try to re-boot that side.
If it's unknown you may be better of with a full rack replace.

Total mileage on the rack?

Mine was at about 210,000 mi when I developed a thunk on a trail run. Now with a new rack installed I feel like I was pushing a sloppy rack for a long time, handling is much much improved. If you're on the fence you may want to re-rack as they do fail eventually. But if you're a DIY guy and don't mind a tiny bit of duplicate labor and you have low mileage the boot may be the low cost answer for awhile to come.

Im at 189 and counting... :) I purchased the vehicle with the torn boot. So i don't know for how long its been like that. My guess a long time. I would think that replacing the boot would not correct the feedback im getting. Most likely this is the original.

Any part numbers on the rack? Ill call CDAN and check prices on new rack.

Dan has all the numbers you need, it's less than $600.

I'm in the process of ordering one from Camelback Toyota. I got a quote for $525 + Shipping

4425060050 is the part#

How's your alignment? I had the same issue after adjusting my torsion bars because the toe was off. Only would show up on the highway.

It's pulling to the left at times, not constant. Should I be looking for anything in particular around the rack?

If that was directed at me I was simply referring to the wheel alignment not the rack. It does sound like you may need one sooner or later because of the torn boot and weeping but you may simply be out of alignment and causing the wobble. Some shops offer lifetime alignments for not much more than a single and since you will be replacing the rack at some point you will need an alignment then so it may be worth getting the truck aligned to see if it corrects the wobble. If not the lifetime alignment will be useful post rack swap, after and suspension adjustments or lift, or after off road driving. I used the lifetime alignment on my 80 7 times in the 10 years I had it.

But you still may need a rack, just wanted to let you know I had a similar issue and the fix before you dropped 600 on the rack. But my truck is a baby at 95k and my rack is dry and tight. Good luck.

I took the truck to the mechanic and he said the rotors/brakes all need replacing. He said i needed a new tie rod boot too. The rotors may be the cause of the steering feedback. I will find a shop that does lifetime alignments and get that done after.

First I'd try a road force tire balance using a 5/150 finger plate with a Toyota cone hub. Most dealers now use this balance setup for the 100. If rotors are warp this would be very noticeable during braking. If steering rack going bad, you'd feel wondering from left to right, unless pulling hard to one side form improper alignment. You may also like to check wheel bearings, snap ring gap and ball joints.

Oh, its really bad when braking so ill replace rotors and do alignment then move to steering rack.

Its also wondering to the left so alignment then rack will be next on the list.
