Does anyone know of a place to rent or borrow a Steering Knuckle Centering Gauge? This will be my first attempt at rebuilding knuckles so I would like to keep the frustration and room for error to a minimum.

I am located in Los Angeles county. I would be willing to give a deposit or some other security if necessary. I will pay shipping to and from. I understand that I am new to the site so it might feel a bit sketchy to lend something like this out.

The other alternative is to buy one from
Bosch Automotive Service Solutions Inc. Toyota | Tool Detail for $308 and then just try to sell it here after. Is there a cheaper place to buy? I searched ebay and all craigslist with no results.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Unless you've changed the the axle housing, the centering tool isn't normally necessary. Just use the old shims as they were originally installed with your new bearings.

And a fish scale to check preload.

ok, just reuse the same shims, I assume I would keep the stacking order and side the same. Fish scale ordered! Thank you!

What vehicle is this for?

Thanks Mudder! I had not seen that first link. Read most of the second link. Seems like it's split betwen whether or not the tool is needed or just reusing shims is acceptable.

Any opinion on using the Marlin seal on 60 series axles vs OEM?

Marlin's seals are bomb! They have a lip so you just push it in until the lip is seated. Unlike to OEM where you have to be careful to not push them in to far. Both are top notch quality as well.
