Well, as someone said in a past thread, the oem steering damper can be a, "pig fxxxer," to remove. Yes, it is a pig fxxxer. Couldn't get it removed so I bought a Sears 2-Arm gear puller as recommended in a few old threads. I've tried a few different angles but can't seem to situate it to make it work effectively (on the driver's side). I'd like to swap in the OME in the next few hours because I'm leaving this evening for a 125 mile drive to the airport and my oem damper is leaking its oil pretty steadily. Don't have access to air tools. I think I can get the passenger side removed by pulling the whole bracket and placing it in a vice.

Can someone clue me in on how to place the puller to get this fawker off?

Gracias,
Jason

Killed an afternoon beating/pulling/praying -- it didn't budge.

Rick are you anywhere near Newburryport, MA? (heading there in the morning)

I destroyed a sears 2 arm puller trying to remove my steering damper. I ended up using a 3-arm "Posi-Lock Model 105" (also from Sears) that worked great. It has a ring around the outside of the three arms, so you can pinch them in real tight. I still had to use a long cheater to turn the wrench though. Wear eye protection, and gloves. When it breaks loose, the noise/energy is impressive!

Neary destroyed mine as well. Gave up. Gotta hit the road tonight and need it to drive. After beating on it the threads were too messed up to get the nut back on so I stuck a pin through the hole in the bolt and will just have to hope it holds for a 250 mile round trip. Sccarry but it will have to work. Taking it to the shop Friday to see if they can get it off.

Jason - are you a RedGreen fan?

Just updating for closure -

Shop got it off. While on the lift, they removed the front DS wheel, turned the steering wheel all the way to the right to get a good angle, and then with a BFH, whacked the end of the bolt - popped right off.

that sound like a good method for an FAQ. i used a pickle fork (or whatever you want to call them) and a 3lb hammer to be successful, but not until starting out like you did.

If I would of known I would waste an afternoon messing with it I would have gone straight to the shop. They charged a whole 10 bucks.
