I am in the middle of a OEM PS conversion on my 8/79 40. I have two questions I have not been able to find the answers to.

First, is the steering column shaft shorter for stock power steering than the manual shaft? I am using a F40/Mini gear box. I swear someone told me the PS shaft was sorter than the manual steering shaft. The part numbers in the EPC are different.

Second for the bearing in the ignition housing. What type of grease can I use. I was thinking wheel bearing grease.

Thanks

can't help on the second ?

Yes the stock PS column is slightly shorter than it's manual version. Some shim the stock column out from the firewall to gain enough clearance when retrofitting stock PS on a manual version.

Do you mean on the inside of firewall?

Do you have any idea how long the PS shaft is? Can a manual shaft be modified to correct length?

Yes shim on the inside of the firewall, I don't know the exact measurement, but I thought it was 1/2"??

The PS column is 0.7 inch shorter than the manual column, to accomodate the longer PS box. It is not difficult to shorten the manual column by cutting and welding.
