Ok...i have a 71 FJ40... how do I seperate the steering column from the box? Has the clamp...removed that...now do I just need to use a Big a$$ hammer and beat the crap out of it to break it loose or is there something else I am missing?

Thanks for the help guys!

Search El Cazador's "Removing Steering Column" and maybe you can find the answer........sorry I still can't link from previous threads. HTH, dave

Follow the link in my sig to my web site and under steering there is a steering box rebuild. Read that. Basically, without taking the box apart the column does not separate from the box. You need to remove the drivers side fender and remove the entire assembly out through the engine bay.

depends, are you trying to save/re-use the column?

sawzall and or cut off wheel always works for me, but I usually don't save them.

Thanks guys! She is out... think I will always put a band around my gear pullers...got a nice black nail from where she popped off removing the steering linkage... other than that she is came out easy once I knew what I was doing!
