Hello All

Has anyone put Steelies on their GX460? If so, do you mind sharing which steelies you went with, if you had to set up specifically etc etc? Many thanks in advance as I look to tackle this on my '18.

Also, in Glendale CA if anyone has a favorite shop in the immediate area.

Cheers!

I have a set of these off of a 79 FJ40 to try on later In the week. Looking for a smaller wheel and more rubber. These roads in memphis take pot holes to a whole different level.

I'm thinking the same things, go down to 17" - will report if I make progress. Great work on the Ironman BTW

@maingear
I think the FJ Cruiser Steelies work with our GXs.

Then I've also been eyeing, but a whole different price point, is the Fifteen52 Analog HDs. But I think the basic Steelies is the way I'll go.

5th gen 4Runner 17" wheels should work.

Why steel wheels? I understand the price point and that you can pound out a bent rim lip, but IMHO I don't think they'll look as nice on a GX as they may on a Tacoma or other truck. GX's just seem too nice to have plain steel wheels, even if they are painted black, gray or whatever.
But this is just my opinion and I like to say, "Opinions are like belly buttons, everyone's got one!"
Also, being in Glendale, you're not too far form Yota Masters in Corona. I used them for all my suspension, lights etc. They're good people.
Eric is the owner. If you go to my build thread there's a picture in the beginning of when I just picked it up from them.

Cheap,$50 and already had new mud tires mounted. Bad thing is they take the acorn type lug nuts and i have to find center caps.

If you're running steel wheels, why bother with center caps? Just paint the centers of your axles! :meh:
I've always considered steels wheels to be a little more on the hardcore side, which included not having center caps.
Also, for $50 clams apiece, one could have some good size gnarly mud terrains mounted for trails and yet have the nice smooth all-season tires for daily driving!
Or, not knowing what part of the country your from, mount some studded tires on the steel wheels for the season!

In mine I often find lint. Ha.
I appreciate opinions and insight, i'm here to learn and avoid issues from people that have experimented before me.

It is def to help the truck scale back on the "glam" of the GX. I want to tone it down a bit. More low key. The fifteen52 wheels i reference are a high price retro steelies, in my opinion. But do I want to spend 1k on wheels when what I really want is the basic wheel. Working out what I want to do with this truck as I find myself caring less about switching vehicles every 2-4yrs under leases - this truck could last me the rest of my life and take my family to some really cool places and that idea makes me feel good. (disclaimer: i will not probably be doing any crazy rock crawls but will be going camping/fishing on land that's a little off grid. Making this capable truck feel a certain way when I walk towards it is my goal because most of the time, when i'm driving it, I can't see it anyways. Hell, I can't commit to a certain roof style rack...haha)

I agree 100% on the center cap, leave them off!

My close friend has a 88 M5 (different world I know) and he runs it without center caps and it looks great. It is also a different beast.

Richard, your truck is amazing. Wonderful looking and a def guide post. Those wheels look fantastic.

I forgot to thank you for the referral to Yota. I've read great things about Eric. I was hoping to get lucky with a place closer popping out of the wood work with my request.

One thing I forgot to mention about you wanting steel wheels, make sure they have the correct offset. If the only wheels you can find have the wrong offset, the whole steel wheel topic will be a moot point.

I was able to get 17" OEM 2020 4runner rims for $50 each off Craigslist. Dudes will literally buy a brand new 4runner and swap rims at the dealership... Totally insane.

Anyway, you could pick some up for cheap. Just another option.

With all due respect, those steel wheels just don't do a Lexus justice.

Try FJC steelies, but beware, they are narrow.

The Fifteen52's have the look of the old-school steelies, but are aluminum, no? I like 'em, but at close to $300 a corner...I dunno...

I'm a big fan of the Fifteen52 old school look. I was going to go with the Analog HD, but they only had 16s at the time. I ended up with the Traverse HD.... no regrets. Highly recommended.
