good afternoon.

so you used to be able to get 17 inch steel wheel for cheap. what the hell happened, did the supply dry up and bring the price up. i am thinking of getting a more common rim for tires but dam now the rims are pricey. and this is just my google search. nothing below 100 each. and i want used unpainted rusty nothing fancy.

thanks

or maybe i need to get a tacoma rim and use spacers? finding them cheap enough

Toyota FJ CRUISER (2007-2014) 17x7.5 Steel Black 16 Hole [69504] - https://www.stockwheels.com/Toyota-FJ-CRUISER-2007-2014-17x7-5-Steel-Black-16-Hole-69504-Wheel-Rim

$105 each, they grit blast and rattle can paint them before shipping them to you. If you call they might ship you some without the re-paint for a little cheaper. Tacoma wheels with spacers are a good option too, and are much more available on craigslist and facebook marketplace than FJ Cruiser steelies.

In answer to your question, yes it seems like steel wheel prices have gone up in recent years.

Rough country 59-75 depending on size. I bought 1 16x8 -12 offset 4.25 bore size to make sure it would clear calipers and hub and it does. I'll be buying the other 4 when funds allow. Free shipping too from thier website.

I'm seeing new, 17x9" steel D-holes on fleebay for ~$75/ea and free ship.
How cheap is cheap to you?
I run these same wheels but 16x8", -12 offset, 4.25bs.

75 is cheap enough. i think i really missed the boat on the cheap take off wheels from the fj cruiser. thats all my bitch was i think. i did see quite a few tacama wheels and depending on what tires i get will really depend on the wheels. hmmmm really leaning hard toward some 33 inch sxii. but the deal i found has them in 17s and that means new rims. bummer found equally cheap 35s on 16 inch rim so i am at a cross roads is all.

I got brand new take offs from a Tacoma last year for about $100 each. They came from a dealer that had pulled them off a new truck. Not cheap really, but it felt pretty reasonable compared to what alloys would run. I was looking to get to a 17" though, so a different situation.

not totaly differnt. i am on the fence between 17 and 16.

see a good deal on the 17 inch rim will add to the idea of getting 17 inch tires. so its a good comparison

I ran16” steelies for a while and still strongly prefer the look of a classic black D window 16” wheel, but they weigh quite a bit more than a cast alloy equivalent and runout values are unpredictably poor.

I am OCD about any wheel/tire vibration so dumped the steels and won’t look back unfortunately.

My 80 on 24 lbs 17x9s and 37” muds is glass smooth up to at least 92 mph.

It's def possible! Just takes some time and effort to dial it in. gl!
So what kind of planning is needed to reach the 95 we are talk MPH
