Too far north. Too far east.
Choice Steel. 7100 2nd NW. 344-4940

I've picked up stuff there for a couple of projects. I got my 6061 aluminum from Marco steel, right next door. 345-3555.

They do not front 2nd street. You drive down an alley to the east off of 2nd.

Is Choice Steel still the store of choice? I don't need much and really miss Metal Supermart.

what do you need? it's the only one I use. But, I might have what you need.

I need some 3/16" flat, 6 inch wide.

Saltey Dogg Metal Fab will sell smaller pieces of stuff. They heard the same thing about folks missing metal supermarket, so they started saving their usable scraps and stocking some “stuff” for us “project consumers”.
Steel and aluminum.
Worth a shot.
They might be there tomorrow too...but off on Friday, if I remember right.

I use Choice when i need a lot of steel just because I hate making the trip into town. If I just need something quick or 1 or 2 pieces I go to Moriarty Pipe and Iron in Moriarty.

I have a lot of 3/16, it isnt 6" wide but can be cut. You are always welcome to check out what I have in my pile.

Anyone dealt with Koenig's on Zuni & San pedro lately? Koenig's Metalmorphosis
I used to get a lot from them back in the day but haven't had the need lately. I recall that the owner passed away some time ago

I use Reliance if its more than 75 bucks, I have had some difficulty with Choice. Koenig's is mostly scrap from what I remember, but fun scrap. I also have A TON of steel you are welcome to pilfer and purloin. I think I have 1/8th strap at 6" ill have to check.

I have a piece of 3/16 plate that is 8 and a half inches wide and a little over 52 inches long if you want it.

That would help. I went out and measured and for now I don't need much. Just 4 pieces of 4"x6" to get the project started. I might need more later, but I might have an alternative plan for that.

Its yours if you want it.

mine is all 1/8th.

I just found a 4' piece of 1/4x6" too.

OK, I think between these two sizes I have a project. Let me get out the tape measure and see how I can pull this together.

The back story here is I really need to cobble together a sway bar for the 4Runner. Gorman had a bar from an FJ62. I went up to his place on Wednesday and we fiddled with it. Ultimately, we came up with a plan to install the bar in the rear, without welding on the frame. Let me get some cardboard cut up and play with it. I'm certain the 3/16" that Mauser has will work perfect for the frame, but I also think the 1/4" will work best at the spring side.

Thanks gents.

I will be going into town this week sometime. Doesnt really matter when. I can bring the piece in with me and we can meet somewhere. Or, you are welcome to come up and dig through my pile. I will be around most of the week building a couple of bumpers.

They're still around and great for small pieces. They also sell large sizes and full sticks/plates of whatever. It's a nice mom/pop shop, owned by Dorothy who carries a compact .45 pistol!! Their art pieces are pretty cool.
